Obituary

Norma Maureen Kuhn, 81, Minot, died Sunday, November 17, 2013 in her home surrounded by her loving family.

Norma was born August 16, 1932 at Noonan, North Dakota the daughter of Mikal and Nora (Evanson) Nilson. She moved with her family to Harvey at an early age where she was raised and educated. She graduated from Harvey High School in 1950 and then from the Sisters of St. Francis School of Nursing in 1953.

Norma was united in marriage to Edward Kuhn on August 16, 1955 at Minot. They made their home in Minot, where along with raising their two daughters, she was employed as a Registered Nurse at Trinity and St. Joseph's Hospital for a number of years. She also worked at Trinity Nursing Home, Americana Health Care and the Oppen's Home for Unwed mothers. She retired from the nursing profession in 1993.

Norma was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Minot. She served on the Minot Commission on Aging Board of Directors for 12 years and the Second Story Board for 12 years. She served on the City of Minot's Planning Commission and was a volunteer for the Food Pantry at the Church. She was a member of the Minot VFW Auxiliary, served on the Mayor's Committee for the Handicapped and on the Ward County Social Service Board. She was an active member of the Democratic NPL Party since 1960, serving as secretary-treasurer, chairperson and delegate to the State Convention for many years. She ran for the ND House of Representatives in 1976 and lost by only 1 vote.

Norma enjoyed reading, walking, gardening, embroidery and traveling with Ed in her retirement years.

Her loving family includes , husband of 58 years, Edward Kuhn; daughters, Connie (Ron) Lowman, Minot and Rebecca (Mark) Post, Minot; grandchildren, Melissa Assels, Isanti, MN, Aaron Assels, Minot and Nick Post, Grand Forks; brother, Mike (Cecilia) Nilson, Minot.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents, and sisters, Marvel Solberg and Phyllis Roble.

Mass of Christian Burial: Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. in Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Minot.
Vigil Prayer Service & Rosary : Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. in the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Interment : Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation: Tuesday from 3:00-6:00 p.m. in the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to Second Story Social Club, Minot.
