Nels H. Narum, 90, Douglas, died Friday, March 5, 2021 in the Benedictine Living Care Center in Garrison from Alzheimers.

Nels was born on September 17, 1930 on the family farm in Rosemont Township of McLean County, North Dakota, the son of Nels and Hilda (Kuntz) Narum.  He was raised on the family  farm and attended Crystal School through the eighth grade.

Nels was united in marriage to Marion Bivins on June 17, 1956 in the Minot Congregational Church.    They made their home on what is known as Marks Grove, also known as the original townsite of Douglas, prior to the railroad coming.   He farmed his entire life and was known for fixing just about anything.    He was a tinkerer with a toothpick in his mouth.    He was a great role model and patient teacher.   He loved his ice cream.   Nels and Marion loved to dance and were the most graceful couple on the dance floor.   He and Marion had moved to the Garrison Meadows Assisted Living Center in March of 2017.

Nels was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Douglas.   He served on numerous boards including: Douglas Township Board, Douglas Township School Board, Garrison School Board, held many positions on Trinity Lutheran Church Council and McLean County FmHA Board.  He was a life member of the Minot Moose Lodge.

His loving family includes , wife of nearly 65 years, Marion, Garrison; children, Peggy Moran, Washburn, DeAnne (Robert) Finken, Douglas, son, Gary (Christie) Narum, Douglas; grandchildren, Danika (Ben) Smith, Camden (Jenna) Moran, Tracy (Dustin) Stangeland, Holly (Chris) Sobieck, Katie Finken, Dylan Finken, Ty (Stephanie) Heinecke, Braden Heinecke and Sadie Heinecke; 8 great grandchildren to include, Addison Moran, Cainen, Emma, Conner and Kipten Stangeland, Gavin, Chase & Calvin Sobieck; siblings, Isabel (Gene) Groninger, Gailen (Rita Amundson) Narum; sister in law, Phyllis Narum; along with a number of nieces and nephews.

Nels was preceded in death by: his parents; son in law, DeWayne Moran; siblings, Norman (Grace) Narum, Melvin (Thelma) Narum, Gladys (Wilfred) Bakko, Hilbert Narum, Florence (Robert) O'Shea, Hazel (John) O' Shea;  sister in law, Edna Narum.

Celebration of Life Service: Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. Trinity Lutheran Church, Douglas, ND. ** A delayed streaming of the service can be viewed starting Thursday afternoon by going to https://www.mtmsales.net/thomas

Wearing of masks at the service is optional.

Interment: Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Douglas, ND.

Visitation: Tuesday, March 9 th from 5:00-7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot and one hour prior to the service in the Church on Wednesday.

Memorials are preferred to Trinity Lutheran Cemetery or Camp of the Cross Ministries.
