Neilson Jowel King, 98, of Donnybrook, ND formerly of Dolores, CO died at a Minot Hospital, April 12, 2020. No local services will be held at this time. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Colorado.

Neilson was born the tenth child of fourteen children to Newell Judson and Mary Ella (Allen) King in West, TX on June 14, 1921. He was raised and educated in Texas. The family moved to Dolores, CO in 1937. Neilson was inducted into the US Army at Lubbuck, TX on August 24, 1942. He was raised to the rank of Sergeant and received the American Theater Campaign Medal, the EAME Campaign Medal with 4 Bronze Stars, a good Conduct Medal and a WWII Victory Medal. He was attached to Patton's 3 ^rd Army and was in wartime service for more than 200 days. After his service he returned to Colorado and was united in marriage to Helen Pratt on March 21, 1948 in Mancos, CO. To this union 5 children were born. The couple continued to make the Colorado mountain region their home as Neilson worked for the Colorado Department of Transportation and became a District are Manger, responsible for maintaining the roads and keeping them cleared and safe. He retired in 1982 in Weldona, CO. and was preceded in death by his wife Helen in 1991.

Neilson was once married to Sybyl Martin in 1992 and they lived in Silverton, TX. This marriage ended in 2012. Neilson lived for a time in Tucson, AZ before moving to North Dakota to be near his daughter Laurie at Donnybrook, ND since 2018.

Neilson loved the mountains but also found beauty in the rolling hills of the Donnybrook area. When in Dolores, CO, Neilson was very active in the local VFW organization and was very proud of his military years.

He is survived by his children; Rebecca (Mark) Caplan, of Tracy, CA, Randall (Kathy) King, of Grand Junction, CO, Laurie Vangraefschepe, of Donnybrook, ND, Larry (Terri) King, of Wiggins, CO, Johnny King, of Ballentine, MT, grandchildren; Angelique Downes (Justin) Chisolm, Kristen King, Sara (Jason) Keen, Matthew (Julie) King, Jeremy (Erika) King, Rachel (Scott) Gemmill, Zachery (Jessica) King, Michael King, Justin (Sarah) King, Carrie (Adam) Martin, Austin King and Katie King and twelve great grandchildren; Thomas King, Kimberly King, Morgan Keen, Elly King, Sydney Gemmill, Bryce Gemmill, Owen King, Brittany King, Loreli King, Patrick Chisolm, Caedmon King, Chloe Martin and Margot Chisolm.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife; Helen and Sybyl and all his siblings.

A private family service will be held at a later date in Colorado.
