Neil Edward Schwope , 77, Berthold, died Thursday, March 12, 2020 in a Minot Nursing Home.
Neil was born February 9, 1943 at Minot, North Dakota, the son of Arthur and Florence (Albin) Schwope. He was raised and educated at Berthold and graduated from Berthold High School in 1961. He attended Minot State College and was employed during his younger years at K-G Mens Store in Minot from 1964-1968.
Neil was united in marriage to Neadene Jacobson on November 23, 1961 at Tagus. From this union three daughters were born. They moved to Berthold in 1968, where he assisted with the operation of the family farmstead near Berthold, Tagus and in Renville County. In 1979, he became employed with Farmers Union Oil as a bulk fuel hauler until retiring in 2007. He was also a bus driver for Berthold Public School throughout the years.
Neil was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church, Berthold, where he had served on the church council. He was active in Berthold with the Jaycee's, volunteered with the Berthold Ambulance and Firefighters and Berthold Lions Club.
He enjoyed traveling, golfing, along with spending time with his grandchildren and attending their activities. He and Neadene have been avid Berthold Bomber fans throughout the years.
Neil is survived by : his wife of 58 years, Neadene; daughters, Kristine Borman (Greg Just), Minot, Kim (Larry) Bloms, Carpio, ND and Kylene (Lonnie) Hornberger, Berthold, ND; 7 grandchildren to include: Heather (Scott) Halverson, Danielle Borman (Brian Glasser), Landis (Kassy) Bloms, Lyndon (Tracie) Bloms, Logyn Bloms (Taylor Alastra), Jordyn (Rafael) Blasquez, and Clay Hornberger; 5 great-grandchildren to include: Beckett and Diem Halverson, Laynie Bloms, Adley Bloms, and Liem Blasquez; sister, Garnet (Doug) Quimby, Roland, Arkansas along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Neil was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Albin, Dale, Verle and Lyle; along with his sisters, Opal and Pearl.
Family Service:
Friday, March 20, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. Zion Lutheran Church of Berthold.
A celebration of life service for the public will take place later this spring.
Interment:
Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot.
Public Visitation:
Thursday, March 19
th
from 4:00-7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
In lieu of flowers and plants, memorials are preferred to Zion Lutheran Church of Berthold or L & C Berthold Activity Fund.
