Nathan Louis Artz , 17, Minot, died on Sunday, February 22, 2015 in his home from cancer.
Nathan was born on February 17,1998 in Minot to Robert K. Artz and Brenda Zent Artz. He lived in Minot and attended Escuela, Longfellow, Erik Ramstad, Central Campus and Magic City Campus. He loved to learn and was a 4.0 student. He played the cello in orchestra and the trombone in band.
Nathan was a member of Troop 433 of the Boy Scouts of America. He had served as senior patrol leader and was working on attaining the rank of Eagle. Troop 433 played a major role in Nathan\'s life. There were many summer camps, and a continuous stream of service projects in his life.
Nathan loved being outdoors and enjoyed all of nature and wildlife. He and his brothers loved to travel and explore historical sites together. Nathan simply enjoyed being with his brothers. Additionally, Nathan enjoyed fishing, gardening, golfing, swimming, and skiing.
Nathan was a member of Little Flower Catholic Church, Minot. He had been an altar server. Nathan was a charter member of Knights of Columbus, St. John Paul II Squires Circle 5690. Nathan was a very faith filled person and his spiritual life defined him. The words he lived by were "faith and trust". He inspired many people with his courage, kindness and calm strength that came as a result of his remarkable faith. He simply blossomed in faith while suffering for more than two years from intense treatments to fight the rare childhood cancer, rhabdomyosarcoma. Nathan wanted it to be known that his life was not about cancer but about love. In faith he lived and in trust he died.
Nathan\'s loving family includes his parents, older brother, Austin, twin brother, Eric, grandmother, Shirley Zent, as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Nathan was preceded in death by his infant sister, Ashley Artz, maternal grandfather, Louis Zent, and paternal grandparents, Harold and Regina Artz.
Due to construction in Nathan\'s parish, Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Minot.
Recitation of the Rosary and Vigil Prayer Service will be held on Friday, February 27, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Leo\'s Catholic Church, Minot.
Interment at Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot
Visitation will be on Friday from noon until 4:00 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, Minot.
