Nanna J. Peterson, 92, Minot, formerly of the Makoti area, died Tuesday, July 14, 2009 in a Minot Nursing Care Center.
Nanna was born July 12, 1917 at Minot, North Dakota, the daughter of John and Anna (Helgeson) Carlson. She was raised and educated at rural Minot, and assisted her family in the operation of the farmstead and raising her brothers and sisters.
Nanna was united in marriage to Paul Peterson on June 26, 1940 in rural Minot. They lived in Minot for a short time, until moving to a farmstead near Makoti, where they raised their family and operated the farm from 1942 until 1988. They moved to Minot that same year. Paul died July 16, 2008.
Nanna was a member of Our Redeemer's Lutheran Brethren Church, Minot, where she was involved in a number of volunteer groups. She was active with the Christian Women's Club, of Minot and assisted Paul with volunteer work for the Golden K Kiwanis Club. She enjoyed quilting, doing embroidery work, playing the piano, reading, along with canning fruits and vegetables from her garden.
Her loving family includes : children, Shirley (Ron) Harbaugh, Cincinnati, OH, Sherman (Janice) Peterson, Makoti, ND, Edward (Elaine) Peterson, Wahpeton, ND, Darrel (Judy) Peterson, Wrenthman, Mass., Richard (Denise) Peterson, Makoti, ND; Twenty-Two Grandchildren, Forty Great-grandchildren; Several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Nanna was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Paul, daughter-in-law: LaVonne; granddaughter, Jennifer, great-grandchildren, Adam Dean, Diana King, great-great grandchildren, Aaron and Alecia King; sisters, Caroline and Inga; brothers, Ole, Hjalmer, Edwin, Art, Oliver and Ralph.
Funeral service
: Friday, July 17, 2009 at 11:00a.m. in Our Redeemer's Lutheran Brethren Church, Minot.
Interment
: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation:
Thursday from 2:00-7:00pm in the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to Our Redeemers Lutheran Brethren Church, Minot.
