Myrtle Corin Thunshelle, 94, Minot and formerly of rural Plaza died on Sunday, April 24, 2016 in a Minot hospital.
Myrtle was born on January 25, 1922 on the family farm near Appam, ND in Winner Township of Williams County to Thomas and Ingeborg (Teige) Quie. She was reared on the family farm, educated in rural elementary school, graduated from Williston High School in 1940 and attended French's Business College in Minot. As a young adult she was employed by North American Aviation as a drill press operator in Inglewood, CA during World War II (1943 - 1947). Following her return to North Dakota she assisted her family with the operation of the family farm and was employed at Oppen's Wholesale and Dakota Transfer both in Minot.
Myrtle married Haakon Thunshelle on November 1, 1953 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Minot. They established a new farm and built a new home in Osloe Township of Mountrail County near Plaza, ND. They semi-retired from farming in 1982 and moved to Minot in 1984, but spent the summer months at the farm and the winter months in Arizona. They moved to Somerset Court in 2001. Haakon died on August 1, 2011. Myrtle had continued to make her home at Somerset Court.
Myrtle was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church rural Plaza until it closed in 1975. Then, she became a member of First Lutheran Church-Plaza and is currently an associate member of Christ Lutheran Church - Minot. She was an officeholder in WELCA and Sunday School and was also a member of the Plaza Senior Citizens, Plaza American Legion Auxiliary and Sons of Norway in Minot. She especially enjoyed Bible Study, traveling, sewing, crafts, puzzles and baking cookies. Their travels took them to Hawaii, Norway, Alaska, Canada, Washington D.C. and the World's Fair in Spokane WA as well as the southeastern and southwestern United States.
Myrtle's loving family includes her children: Terry (Shereen) Thunshelle of Bismarck and Calvin Thunshelle of Phoenix; grandchildren: Josiah (Carrie), Kristen, Kelsi, Jared and Connor; sisters-in-law: Lorraine Quie of Williston, Ida Weber of Tempe AZ and Joyce Thunshelle of Plaza and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Myrtle was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother: Lester Quie, infant brother: Lester, and foster brother: Gilbert Staven.
Celebration of the Life of Myrtle Thunshelle: Saturday, April 30, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the First Lutheran Church - Plaza.
Interment: East Plaza Cemetery - rural Plaza.
Visitation: Friday from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
Memorials are preferred to Camp of the Cross Garrison or First Lutheran Church Plaza.
