Obituary

Moses Phillip Clouse, 100, Minot, and formerly of Surrey, Norwich and Velva, died Friday, February 12, 2010 in a Minot Nursing Home.

Moses was born March 19, 1909, north of Surrey, ND, the son of William and Mary (Devilbliss) Clouse. He was educated in Surrey, and attended one year at UND in Grand Forks, ND.

He was united in marriage to Clara Bolstad on July 18, 1931. He worked with Pure Oil, and operated the Clouse Super Service Station in the 1930's. He then farmed for three years and owned the Norwich General Store and was Postmaster there for six years. In the 1950's, he worked for Ose Brothers Construction Company of Thief River Falls, MN, where he was employed as the bookkeeper/time keeper, followed by two years as the public relations director for Dakota Lutheran High School in Minot.

In 1957, Moses attended Luther Seminary in St. Paul, MN. In 1958, he began serving as Lutheran Lay Pastor in a 4-point parish in Minnewaukan, ND and later at a 2-point parish in Luverne, ND. He also worked for the Lutheran Church Indian Ministries program at Belcourt, ND and Roy Lake, MN, and served as the Administrator-Chaplain at Bethesda Nursing Home in Beresford, SD. He had later served as interim vacancy pastor at Philip, SD., Zimmerman, MN and Balfour, ND.

His wife of 64 years, Clara, passed away on October 21, 1995. At that point, he became very active as a volunteer for Trinity Hospital, serving in several areas, including being a doorman at the Trinity Professional Building for several years. He also conducted Bible Studies and visitation at Edgewood Vista for several years, including conducting services at the Alzheimer's Unit there. He enjoyed being an ambassador for the Lord, fishing, and was quite a handyman. He was a member of Norwich Lutheran Church.

Moses is survived by his sons, Lyle Clouse, Devils Lake, Calvin (Lee) Clouse, Minot, daughters, Lila (Orville)Ostrand, Rainier, OR, Phyllis (Don) Myhrer, Ramsey, MN, Mary Adams, Bloomington, MN, Sandra (John) Barrington, Shreveport, LA, Susan (Martin) Manuel, Spokane, WA, 35 grandchildren, 77 great-grandchildren, 19 great-great grandchildren; half-brother, Billy Clouse, Alden, IA, half-sisters, Naomi Dodds, Hillar, NY and Martha Haltoft, Omaha, NE; several nieces and nephews.

Moses was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Clara, infant granddaughter, Debra Clouse, infant great-grandson, Devin Larson, brother, Aaron, and sisters, Mable, Blanche and Fern.

Funeral service: Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at 11:00 a.m . in St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Minot.
Interment:
Norwich Lutheran Cemetery, later in the Spring.
Visitation:
Tuesday from 2:00-7:00 p.m., with a family service at 7:30pm in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.

are preferred to the Norwich Lutheran Cemetery Fund, St. Mark's Lutheran Building Fund, or an organization of the donor's choice.
