Obituary

Monte Avery, 62, of Rural Minot and Mesa AZ died unexpectedly on Monday, July 13, 2020 in his home.

He had struggled with diabetes and heart issues for many years.

Monte Lew Avery was born on December 4, 1957 in Minot to Marvin and Arlene (Thingvold) Avery.  He was raised in the Meadowbrook Estates area on the east edge of Minot, attended Nedrose Elementary School and graduated from Minot High School in 1976.  He continued his education at Dickinson State College prior to graduating from Minot State College in 1980 with a degree in economics and finance.

Monte was once married to Christine Burgeson and they were the parents of two children: Katie and Jordan.  They made their home in Minot where Monte became a stockbroker at age 23.  He was employed as an investment representative for many years the last 27 years with Integrity/Viking Mutual Funds, most recently as their Senior Portfolio Manager.

As a student, Monte was a member of the Minot High School Football team and enjoyed rodeo activities.  As a young adult he was active as a team roper on the area rodeo circuit.  Also, he enjoyed hunting, tending to his flowers, plants and lemon trees in Arizona, and spending time with his dog Franklin.

Monte's loving family includes his children:  Katherine Avery of Chandler AZ and Jordan Avery of Minot; parents: Marvin and Arlene Avery of rural Minot; sister: Michelle (David) Robinson of Nevis MN; nephew: Brian Robinson and niece: Emily (Wade) Christensen.

Monte was preceded in death by his grandparents: Earl and Helen Avery of Minot and Elvin and Elsie Thingvold of Columbus.

Public Celebration of the Life of Monte Avery:  Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. in Cornerstone Presbyterian Church - Minot.  Masks are preferred but not required.
Livestream of the service will be available by accessing https://www.youtube.com/c/CornerstonePresbyterianChurchMinot/featured Interment:  Rosehill Memorial Park - Minot.
Public and Informal Celebration/Reception: Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the V.F.W. Club- Minot.
Visitation:  Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
Memorials are preferred to the Second Story Social Club or to the Donor's Choice.
