Obituary

Milton V. Dunn, 86, Minot, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, January 14, 2009, at Trinity Homes.

Milton was born August 21, 1922 in Lonetree, ND to William and Lucy (Ford) Dunn. He was raised and educated in Lonetree and Des Lacs, ND, where he graduated from high school in 1940. Following high school he began employment at Trinity Hospital. Milton was united in marriage to Myrtle L. Thompson on June 30, 1942.

Milton enlisted into the US Army on January 31, 1943. During his honorable and distinguished service during World War II, Milton was awarded a Bronze Star Medal in addition to the European-African Middle Eastern Campaign, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign, American Campaign, and Good Conduct Medals. He was honorably discharged on December 21, 1945. He returned to Minot, but later moved to Stanley, ND, where he began working at Anderson Department Store in sales for the next twelve years. Myrtle died on April 12, 1951.

Milton was united in marriage to Marie (Mader) Posey on November 10, 1954, in Stanley, ND. They moved to Minot in 1958. Milton worked for the next twenty-six years at John Moses Veteran's Hospital as sterilizing room manager until his retirement in 1984.

He enjoyed reading and keeping his cars spotless. Milton and Marie spent many hours working on puzzles and then framing them. Milton also enjoyed fishing with his brother-in-law and buddy, Robert Grinolds. Politics were also discussed a time or two!

For the past few years he had resided at Brentmoor, Emerald Court and Trinity Homes where he received excellent care. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation and thanks to all the care-givers during these last 4 years.

He was a faithful member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Minot and a past member of the American Legion.

Surviving family includes: Loving wife of 54 years, Marie; Children: Bruce (Kathy) Dunn, Foresthill, CA, Diane (Myron) Mogard, Deering, ND, and Alan (Jan) Dunn, Fargo, ND; Grandchildren: Shawn (Tabitha) Dunn, Natalie (Tommy) McElmeel, Lee (Brandie) Mogard, Jason (Donelle) Mogard, Clinton Mogard, Robyn (Denver) Silha, Nathan Dunn, Jennifer (Rick) McElderry Susan Carson, Shayne Saeland, and Rob Olson; Great-Grandchildren: Samantha Pauline Dunn, Lucas McElmeel, Taylor, Cale, and April Mogard, Ashley, Lindsey, and Katie Mogard, Camden Silha, Dakota and Samantha Michelle Dunn, Kailan McElderry, Austin and Alexander Carson, Connor and Cole Saeland; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws.

Milton was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Myrtle, sister, Wilma Mann, Gladys Hall and Bernice Ruesch, and brothers, Willard and John Dunn and two infant great grandchildren.

Funeral: Saturday, January 31, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. in St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Minot;
Interment:
Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot;
Visitation:
Friday, January 30, 2009, from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
