Obituary

Milo J. Mikkelson, 92, Minot, former longtime area farmer, died Sunday, November 7, 2010 in a Minot Nursing Care Center.

Milo was born August 17, 1918 in Minot, the son of Ludvig and Sophia (Stakston) Mikkelson. He was raised on the family homestead SW of Minot, and was educated at country schools in that area. Milo continued to farm the family farm throughout the years and eventually expanded the operation of the homestead raising small grains throughout the years. He moved to Minot in 1947 to care for his ill mother until her death in 1966.

Milo was a charter and life member of the Moose Lodge of Minot. He enjoyed making his daily trips wearing his green work clothes to Schatz Crossroad's for coffee or meals.

His loving family includes : sister-in-law: Harriet Mikkelson, Minot; nieces and nephews: Virginia (Marlyn) Korslien, Minot, Leslie (Clifford) Balcom, Yakima, WA, Lavern (Kandi) Mikkelson, Minot, Allen Mikkelson, Minot, Evelyn and Ruth Gabelien, Myron, Larry, Duane and Vernon Gabelien, & Marilyn (Verlane) Gabelien, all of Whidbey Island, WA.

Milo was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Bertha, Daisy, Myrtle, Alma, Liljin, and Ruth, brothers, Albert and Lyle and special friend, Alma Hill.

Funeral service: Friday, November 12, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. in Zion Lutheran Church, Minot;
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot;
Visitation : Thursday from 2:00-7:00pm in the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials be designated to the Zion Lutheran Church debt retirement fund.
