Obituary

Millard Anthony Stoland, 82, Minot and formerly of Carpio died on Tuesday, February 26, 2008, in a Minot hospital.

He was born on May 20, 1925 on the family farm near Greene, North Dakota, the youngest of four children, to John and Emma (Botten) Stoland. He was reared on farms near Greene and three miles west of Carpio. He attended rural schools in that area and graduated from Carpio High School in 1943. As a young adult, Millard farmed with his father and brother, Maurice, until 1951 when his father retired and he continued the operation of the farm.

Millard married Leora Young in November of 1962 at Carpio, ND. They were the proud parents of two children: Kathryn Charlene and Jerome Millard. They made their home on the farm in Carpio Township of Ward County near Carpio. Leora died on September 4, 1977.

Millard married Bernice Kotasek on October 18, 1980 in Minot. They made their home on the farm near Carpio. He retired from farming in 1992 and they moved to Minot later that year, but continued to help his step-son, Blaine, on his farm north of Minot.

Millard was active in both church and community. He was very fond of his time with the Nodakords, having spent 37 years with his "brothers in song" . Also, he sang in the Zion Lutheran Church Choir, was a lifelong member of the Farmers Union and 50 year member of the Elks Lodge and was active with the Golden K Kiwanis Club. He was presently a member of Zion Lutheran Church and a former longtime member of the Carpio Lutheran Church.
