Obituary

Mildred E. Zimmer, 90, Minot and formerly of Kenmare, died Saturday, November 25, 2006, in a Minot Healthcare Center.

Mildred was born December 20, 1915, on the family farm north of Larsen, North Dakota, the daughter of Christ and Lisa (Tweten) Haugstad. She was raised on the farm north of Larsen and attended a country school in that area. She attended and graduated from high school at Noonan in 1933. She attended Minot State College for one year, where she received her Elementary Teaching Certificate. She taught for a year at Wishek, and later at a school north of Kenmare for five years. While teaching in Rockford Township, she met her future husband, Odell Zimmer, and they were married on December 25, 1941, in the Pleasant Prairie Lutheran Church at Columbus, the same church she was baptized and confirmed in years earlier.

Odell and Mildred lived and farmed 20 miles north of Kenmare, where they raised their four children. She and Odell retired to a home in Kenmare in 1982. Mom and Dad had a wonderful, fun life together, enjoying many great vacations. She often said the best vacation she and Dad took was when they drove the Alaskan Highway in the pickup with the camper on top, eating a lot of macaroni and cheese meals. After Odell's death in 1997, she resided at the Baptist Home's Assisted Living Center in Kenmare. She lived there until moving to ManorCare in March of this year.

Throughout the years, she was active at Evanger Lutheran Church, willingly serving in many aspects of the church. She held various offices, assisted with serving dinners, lunches and receptions. She loved music and sang many solos and duets for funerals, weddings and other events. Mildred's family was very important to her and she was very happy when they could be together. She loved to entertain, not only her family, but also guests at the farm and later at their home in Kenmare. She fixed wonderful meals and was always concerned that no one left the table hungry. Her entertaining continued even after she became a resident of the Baptist Home, having guests in for coffee parties, a game of cards, and always being a gracious hostess. Mildred loved her Lord and we are comforted with the knowledge that she is now in her eternal home. We love you Mom!

Her loving family includes : Children: Loren (Margaret) Zimmer, Kenmare; Linda (Richard) McBride, Minot, Harold (Sue Roise) Zimmer, Minot and Philip (Gail) Kenmare.
