Mildred "Millie" Sethen, 93, Garrison, formerly of Minot, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 10, 2017 at a Garrison care facility.
Millie was born on May 12, 1923 in Minot, ND to William and Pauline (Ziegenhagen) Weinreich. She attended country school near Burlington, ND in her early years and after the family moved to Minot, she attended Minot High School, graduating in 1941. She then attended Minot Business College for a time and began her working life at Minot Candy, where she was the bookkeeper and accountant.
Millie was united in marriage to Robert "Bob" Sethen on May 20, 1944 and to this union two children: Karen and Keith were born. Millie and Bob spent a lifetime working side by side raising their children and building their business interests. During the late 40's and early 50's they owned and operated "Keg" Restaurant in Minot, where she kept the kitchen humming and the girls hopping (the Keg was famous for the "car hops" and "curb service"). They sold the Keg in the mid 50's and purchased a farm near Velva and thus began their farming life together that lasted over 60 years. Their farming interests included properties in Velva, Raub and the Emmet areas. In 1969, they moved from Velva to a new home they built in Minot, where they lived for the next 45 years. After Bob passed away February 25, 2014, Millie moved into Somerset Court in Minot, where she resided for the next three years.
Millie enjoyed the farm life along with her other interests: bowling on several leagues in Velva and Minot, card playing of every sort, but most notably bridge, at which she was quite proficient and of course dancing and dining at the Minot Elks, Moose and Eagles Clubs. She will be most remembered for her calm presence and her loving devotion to her family.
Millie's loving family includes: her children, Karen (Don Martin) Bolstad, Grand Forks, ND and Keith (Kathy) Sethen, Garrison, ND; grandchildren, Jason (Fran Balzer) Sethen, Chicago, IL and Amanda (Tony) Bustos, Spring Grove, IL; great grandchildren, Briley and Keiton Bustos, Spring Grove, IL.
Millie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, Harold Weinreich and sister, Elsie Hodge.
