Mildred Knudson , 89, Bismarck, formerly of Glenburn, died February 4, 2011, at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center.
Mildred was born January 13, 1922, the oldest daughter of Oscar and Hannah (Swensrud) Signalness in Glenwood, MN. She graduated from Glenwood High School in 1940 and was a waitress for many years at Osterberg's Caf in Alexandria, MN.
She moved to Minot to join the rest of her family and in 1961 married Edwin Knudson. Their son, Allen, was born in 1964 while living in Westhope. In 1967, they made their home in Glenburn, where Mildred and Edwin were custodians at the Glenburn Public School. Prior to her retirement in 1984, Mildred worked at the YMCA in Minot.
Mildred loved the Lord Jesus and leaned on her faith as a source of comfort and strength. She loved her Hope Lutheran Church family and served as the church treasurer for several years. Mildred's calling was to serve others and she did that obediently throughout her life. She loved gardening, canning, quilting, embroidery, and baking. She was known for making "the best" lefse and fattigmand. Family was always very important to Mildred. She enjoyed the years that her nieces and nephews were growing up and was thrilled when she had a son of her own! She loved family gatherings and was known for often getting the giggles. Mildred enjoyed playing any game especially whist, solitaire, and Chinese checkers. It was very evident that she fulfilled her role as a loving mother and grandmother. Mildred adored her four granddaughters.
Mildred is survived by her son, Allen (Kari) Knudson, Bismarck; granddaughters, Emily, Karly, Britta, and Alissa Knudson, Bismarck; sister, Deloris Stenvold, Minot; sister-in-law, Gloria Signalness, Minot; and many loving nieces and nephews.
