Obituary

Mildred Elizabeth Peterson, 62, rural Mylo, ND died on Sunday, September 28, 2008 in a Minot hospital.

Mildred was born on October 16, 1945 in Cando, ND to Harry and Florence (Gores) Abercrombie. She was raised and educated in Bisbee, ND and graduated from Minot State University - Bottineau in 1992 with a degree in office management. Mildred married Thomas Peterson on January 15, 1964 in Bisbee. They made their home on a farm in Island Lake Township of Rolette County near Mylo, ND. She was employed as a waitress, caregiver and by Uniband and the local soil conservation office in Rolette. In addition, she helped with a variety of tasks on the farm and was an excellent wife, mother and grandmother.

Mildred was an avid reader, traveled throughout the U.S. with her daughter, and enjoyed ceramics, architecture, painting, crafts, quilting, sewing and dining out. She was known for her unique and witty sense of humor and she loved to laugh. Through her travels with her daughter, she was an avid collector of souvenirs such as shot glasses, magnets and playing cards. She also collected pig and elephant figurines.

Her loving family includes her husband of 44 years Tommy; children: Maynard (Diane) Peterson of Minot, Chris (Jennifer) Peterson of Sawyer and Cindy Peterson of Bismarck; grandchildren: Ryan, Kari and Madison Peterson as well as Ashley and Austin Stensby; sisters: Ruth (Larry) Peterson of Bonners Ferry, ID and Mary (Oliver) Boe of Perth, ND; brothers: Harry of Devils Lake, David of Blaine, WA and Mark (Joan) of Thief River Falls, MN and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents and brother Johnny.

Funeral Service: Friday, October 3, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in the Wolford Lutheran Church.
Interment will be in the Rolette Cemetery.
Visitation: Thursday from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
Memorials are preferred to the Rolette American Legion Post or to the American Heart Association.
