Obituary

Micheal Lynn Larson, 71, Minot died on Thursday, May 9, 2019 in his home after a year long battle with cancer.

The story of Micheal's birth as remembered by two older sisters. It was a winter of deep snow when Micheal was born to Arnold and Elizabeth (Petz) Larson on February 13, 1948. "Pa hooked up the horses to the stoneboat and went to the Akan farm to bring Lydia back. There was so much snow that Pa had to shovel to get Lydia in the house. When Lydia was in the house Pa took the rest of us kids (7) down to the barn to milk cows. When we got back to the house, we heard a baby crying and we had a new brother. One at a time we all got to go upstairs to see Mom and meet Mike."

Mike received his first Holy Communion in June of 1956. He attended country school through 7th grade. He continued his education in Ryder ND, graduating in 1966.

Mike volunteered for the draft in May 1967. He served in the US Army stationed at Fort Bliss, TX; Fort Dix, NJ; and Fort Jackson, SC. Returning to Minot two years later, he started a part time job at K-Mart. He held many positions over his 38 years there and retired as Assistant Store Manager in 2008.

Mike married Sharleen Severance in January of 1968. They divorced in the early 80's but Sharleen remained his companion for life. They traveled together to casinos in Las Vegas, New Mexico and ND. They enjoyed being together for the grandchildren's school and sporting events. Sharleen bought the motor home and Mike bought the boat for summers of camping and fishing. Mike was a great father and an amazing grandfather. He would do anything to support his grandchildren.

He enjoyed driving the countryside looking for the big buck and spending time in his boat. He had a green thumb. His garden was always plentiful with lots to share with his family and friends. He enjoyed going to auction sales to see what treasures he could find. Bowling, golf and slow pitch softball kept him active for many years. He rolled one 300 game and was a member of the 1983 North Dakota Champions Class B Slow Pitch tournament team. He was a diehard Minnesota Vikings and Twins fan even during their years of very few wins.

In addition to Sharleen, Mike is survived by his three children: Shawna Lynn (Richard) Schenfisch, Makoti; Christopher Micheal (Denise) Larson, Minot; and Jaime Lynn (Blair) Haaland, Minot. His seven grandchildren were everything to him. They are Charlee and Jericka Schenfisch, Max Wilson and Parker Larson, and Kayleigh, Ben and Blake Haaland.

Five sisters survive: Eileen Ehlert, Renton, WA; Joan (John) Christensen, Las Vegas, NV; Sylvia Thompson, Wimberley, TX; Linda (David) Jacobson, Minot, ND; and Nancy Larson, Albuquerque, NM. Three brothers survive: Richard, Minot, ND; Byron (Donna), Ryder, ND; and Ronald (Karen), Garrison, ND. Sisters and Brothers in Law: Sharon (J. Budd) Hovey, Rio Rancho, NM; Jan (Sally) Severance, Ryder, ND. Many, many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives also survive.

Preceding Mike in death were his parents; his brother: Eugene; brothers-in-law: Donald Ehlert and Pat Thompson; sisters-in-law: Judith Larson and Sandra Larson; and his father and mother-in-law: Raymond and Fern Severance.
