Obituary

Michael Richard Murphy, 75, Burlington and formerly of Flaxton, Foxholm and Minot, died on Saturday, January 13, 2007 in a Minot hospital.

He was born on April 14, 1931 in Flaxton, ND to Michael Wilbur and Viola (Thompson) Murphy. He was raised in Flaxton and attended Flaxton schools. He served in the U.S. Army's 4th Signal Battalion during the Korean Conflict from January 16, 1952 until December 12, 1953. He received the Korean Service Medal with 3 bronze stars, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and 3 Meritorious Unit commendations. Following his honorable discharge at Camp Carson CO he returned to Flaxton.

Michael married Alva Clouse on June 23, 1956 in Foxholm. They made their home in Flaxton, Foxholm and Minot prior to moving to Burlington in 1962. Michael had been employed at the Des Lacs Valley Nursery and Texaco Service Station in Burlington prior to being employed at the Burlington School for sixteen years. He retired in 1989. Alva died on September 2, 2000. Michael had continued to reside in Burlington.

Michael was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church - Foxholm, Burlington Senior Citizens, Minot Moose Lodge and especially enjoyed chatting with friends over a cup of coffee and fishing in his younger years.

Michael's family includes : children: Michael J. and Audrelee Dallam-Murphy of Westfield, MA and Patricia Murphy of Seattle, WA; granddaughter: Tesia Ann Murphy; special friends: Kathy Cline, Leona Petersen and Cashmir Dietz; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sister Ruthilda Peterson and brother James Murphy.

Mass of Christian Burial: Friday January 19, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Church - Foxholm;
Vigil Prayer Service:
Thursday at 7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home Chapel.
Interment:
St. Mary's Church Cemetery - rural Foxholm;
Visitation:
Thursday from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot;
Memorials are preferred to the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
