Merwell Krosbakken, 85, Minot, died Monday, December 3, 2007, in a Fargo hospital.

Merwell was born July 28, 1922 at Harvey, ND the son of Melvin and Melvina (Stendahl) Krosbakken.He was raised and educated at Harvey and entered into active duty service with the US Army in January of 1945. He served during World War II and the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in December of 1946.

Merwell was united in marriage to Vera Wacker on July 20, 1945 at Towner. They made their home at Anamoose for several years, where Vera taught, and he owned and operated the Mobil Service Station there. They moved to Minot in 1954, where he was employed with Westland Oil Company for several years, and then with Gaffaney's, before becoming the purchasing agent for Trinity Medical Center. He retired in 1987, and then worked for JC Penney Co. for twelve years. Vera died August 20, 2002.

Merwell was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot. He was also a member of the VFW Post #6831, Anamoose, the Moose Lodge, Minot, and was a former member of the Elks Lodge #1089, Minot. He was a member of the Dakota Singles group. His special interests included: fishing, wood-crafting, along with spending time with family and friends.

His loving family includes : Daughters: Sandy (Jim) Stai, Fargo, ND and LouAnn (Wayne) Schumacher, Wahpeton, ND; Son: Doug (Debbie) Krosbakken, Las Vegas, NV; Grandchildren: Jeff, Steve and Greg Stai, Amanda (Brent) Amundson, Stuart Schumacher and Kent (Kay) Krosbakken; Great-Grandson: Cameron Krosbakken; Sister: Babe Kostad, Harvey, ND.

Merwell was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and a son, Merlin and brothers, Brian and Kolman, along with half brothers, Chester, Orville and Arthur Stendahl and a half sister, Marion Stafford.

Funeral service: Friday, December 7, 2007 at 10:30a.m. in Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot.
Interment : Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation: Thursday from 2:00-7:00pm in the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
