Merredith Ann Fowler, 89, Grand Forks, died Tuesday, April 8, 2008, in 4000 Valley Square - Woodside Village, Grand Forks.
Merredith Ann Miller was born to Percy and Anna M. (Strifert) Miller on July 27, 1918, in Grand Forks, ND. She lived with her parents in Grand Forks, ND, Minneapolis, MN and Velva, ND. Merredith graduated from Velva, ND High School in 1936. She attended the University of Northern Iowa and Iowa State University, graduating in 1940 with a B.S. degree in Home Economics. She was a member of Kappa Delta sorority at Iowa State University.
Merredith and George M. Fowler were united in marriage on October 15, 1946, in Portland, ME. Merredith worked for Camp Fire Girls in Corpus Christi, TX, Portland, ME, and Boston, MA. In 1948 she moved to Minot where she and her husband owned and operated P.W. Miller Co. Merredith taught home economics at Mohall, ND in 1963-1964. She also worked for Ellison's Department Store in Minot from 1969 until her retirement in 1975. Her husband, George Fowler, died March, 29, 1983. Merredith moved to Mayville, ND in 1994 and to Grand Forks in 1996, first residing at Parkwood Place and later at 4000 Valley Square. She attended First Presbyterian Church in Grand Forks.
She was a member of the YWCA Board of Directors, First Presbyterian Church, Minot, Venus Chapter Order of Eastern Star, VFW Auxiliary, Shrine Auxiliary, Prairie Quilters Club and the Northwest Home Economics Association in Minot. She also served as a Minot Chapter President and State Treasurer of A.A.U.W.
Merredith enjoyed traveling, and visited China, the former Soviet Union, Yugoslavia, Mexico, Bavaria, England. She also traveled to many places in the United States. She delighted in spending time at Strawberry Lake, ND and watching her grandchildren grow up. Her favorite hobbies included sewing, knitting and quilting. She had the pleasure of attending the International Quilt Show in Houston, TX.
She is survived by her children, Ann Clark of Grand Rapids, MN, Heidi (Bill) Krivarchka of Mayville, ND, Deborah Swanson (Howard) of Grand Forks, ND; grandchildren; Christy Clark, Grand Forks, ND , Katy (Erik) Lunemann, Merrifield, MN, Leslie (Nate) Reagan, White Salmon, WA, Allison (Seth) Berglund, Boise, ID, Jillian Krivarchka, Grand Forks, ND, Molly Krivarchka, Grand Forks, ND, Geoffrey Swanson, Northfield, MN and Stephanie Swanson, Grand Forks, ND, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George Fowler; sons-in-law, Michael Clark and Dan Retka; sister, Lucille Anderson; and brother, Don P. Miller.
Services:
Saturday, April 12, 2008, 1 p.m., in Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 S. 42nd St., Grand Forks.
Visitation:
will be one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.
Interment:
Saturday, April 19, 2008, at 1:00 p.m., in the Velva, ND Community Cemetery.
Memorials:
are preferred to First Presbyterian Church, Minot, First Presbyterian Church, Grand Forks or Valley Memorial Homes Foundation.
