Maynard L. Klimpel , 56, Minot and formerly of the Sawyer area, died Friday, September 19, 2008 in a Minot Hospital.

Maynard was born August 5, 1952 at Minot, North Dakota, the son of Melvin Sr. and Evelyn (Storbeck) Klimpel. He was raised on the family farm in the Sawyer-South Prairie area, and attended Sawyer School District, graduating from Sawyer High School.

During his younger years, Maynard had been involved in chariot racing with his brothers. He had worked for Minot Livestock Auction, Bechtold Excavating, and Gravel Products, along with maintaining his farming and ranching interests throughout the years in the Sawyer area. He retired in 2005 due to ill health and had entered Trinity Nursing Home in the fall of 2005.

Maynard was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Minot. He had also been a member of the ND National Guard unit. He was an avid fisherman and deer hunter. He enjoyed having a piece of pie and cup of coffee with family and friends.

Maynard is survived by his sister, Kathy (Calvin) Neubauer, Glenburn, ND, along with a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Melvin and Marlyn and sister, Karen.

Funeral service : Tuesday, September 23, 2008 at 11:00am in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Minot;
Interment : Willis Township Cemetery, rural Sawyer, ND;
Visitation : Monday from 2:00-7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Minot.
