Obituary

Maxine Pankow , 86, Minot, died Saturday, October 24, 2020 in a Minot hospital.

Maxine was born July 16, 1934 in Golden Valley, ND to Charles and Lou Ella (Presthus) Hoppo. She grew up in Dodge, ND, and graduated from Dodge High School with the Class of 1952. After high school, she moved to Minot and found employment with Union National Bank.

Maxine was united in marriage to James A. Pankow on April 8, 1954 in Minot.  They would call Minot home the rest of their lives and were blessed with six children.  In addition to being the best mother to her large family, Maxine worked at the Minot Elk's Lodge as a secretary for many years. She deeply valued the lifelong relationships that were made in the Elk's by attending meetings and nights spent dancing the night away. James passed away on October 30, 1996.

Maxine was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Elks Lodge, Eagles Aerie, American Legion Auxiliary and the Minot Curling Club.  She enjoyed spending weekends camping with her children at Ft. Stevenson and Downstream Campground near the Garrison Dam.  Maxine also enjoyed a good book, playing cards with family and poker nights and bowling league were also on the weekly menu of activities.  She was a competitor her entire life and a devout fan of all things Minnesota that included the Twins, Timberwolves and Vikings.  She will be missed deeply by all who were blessed to share in her life.

Maxine is survived by her children Lorie (Barry) Johnson, Kenmare, ND, Sherry (George) Carlson, Minot, Linda Schroeder, Colorado Springs, CO, Julie Rice, (Dean Eman), Minot, ND and David (Tonya) Pankow, Minot, ND; 14 grandchildren; Matthew (Kelly) Stewart, Natasha (Jim) Haugen, Stephanie (Tim) Chell, Kaylan (Trish) Carlson, DaNae (Jason) Streets, Tracey (Jake) Watson, Tiffany (Rico) Salas, Sabrina Schroeder, Patrick Schroeder, Kelsey Rice (Kyle Laureano), Colton Rice, Payton Rice, Abby Pankow, Ethan Pankow; 27 great grandchildren; Treyton, Mason, Amiley Stewart; Hunter and Brekyn Haugen; Kaiya, Allie, Broden, Eli Chell; Tavia, Cohen, Graham, Ivan Carlson; Kemper, Piper, Vesper Streets; Garrett, Gavin, Grady Derheim; Trystan, Madisyn, Danika Salas; Alicya, Tylina Schroeder; Iseah Schroeder; Avery Laureano; Gunnar Rice; great-great grandson, Jace Michael Choriton; special friend, Elmer Allmendinger, Bismarck, ND; brother-in-law Tom (Gail) Pankow, Mesa, AZ; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, husband James, son Terry Pankow, grandson Luke Stewart and sister Diane Iannarelli.

Private Family Celebration of Maxine's Life: 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at Christ Lutheran Church, Minot.  Due to pandemic, masks are required to attend. A link to view livestream of the service of the service can be found at www.bit.ly/MaxinePankowFuneral
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot
Public Visitation: Tuesday, October 28, 2020 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
In lieu of plants and flowers memorials are preferred to Christ Lutheran Church, Minot.
