Mary Kay Whitted, 83, Minot, died Monday, August 19, 2013, in her home.
Mary Kay was born November 10, 1929, in Minot, North Dakota to Edward C. and Margaret (Frost) Schaefer. She was raised and educated in Afton Township of Ward County, attending the Frost School District until eighth grade. She completed her education at St. Leo's High School, graduating with the class of 1947.
Mary Kay was united in holy marriage to Glenn Whitted on October 18, 1948, in Minot, ND. They made their home in rural Logan, ND on a farmstead. They specialized in small grains farming mostly in New Prairie Township until 1979. In addition to the farm duties, Mary Kay was also responsible for bookkeeping duties for Whitted Construction Company.
They moved to Minnewaukan in 1979, where she served as City Auditor until 1984. She became a Mary Kay consultant in 1985 continuing with the company until her death. They moved to Minot in 1984, but enjoyed traveling south for winters spending time in Arizona and California visiting her daughters and families.
She was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church and its Confraternity of Christian Mothers, served as a 4-H leader for 12 years and belonged to the Logan Homemaker's Club.
Mary Kay was very creative. Her hobbies included traveling, crocheting, sewing, ceramics, scrapbooking and beading. She would spend hours with her great grandchildren scrapbooking her memories. Her scrapbooks were more than just pictures; they were the history of her life and family. She loved telling the stories of her past. Her family meant the world to her. Her motto was faith, hope and love. Mary Kay will be deeply missed by all who shared in her life.
Her family includes her daughters, Peggy (David) Beuchler, Sawyer, ND, Susan (Danny) Burton, San Jose, CA and Cynthia (David) Grabow, Modesto, CA; grandchildren, Wannette (Paul) Cova, Valarie (Steve) Loera, Bruce Burton, Chad (Amanda) Schieve, Kathy Grabow, all of California, Steve (Allison) Beuchler, Fred (Lezlie) Beuchler, both of Minot; great-grandchildren: Savanna Burton, Phillip Grabow, Ashtyn and Garrett Schieve, Paul Dominick and Jessica Kathryn Cova and Abigail Loera, all of California, Cassidy, Benjamin and Hannah Beuchler, all of Minot; brothers, Bernard (Elaine) Schaefer, Minot and Lawrence (Lucille) Schaefer, Hot Springs Village, AR and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mary Kay was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Glenn, grandson, Eric Schieve, great-grandson, Paul Anthony Cova; sisters, Loretta Gilbert and Margaret Burnham; brothers, Ted, Harold, Ed, Francis and Leonard Schaefer, and an infant sister, Eleanor.
Mass of Christian Burial
: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 24, 2013 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Minot.
Vigil Prayer Service:
Friday at 7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Visitation:
Friday, August 23, 2013 from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to the donor's choice.
