Mary Lang, 96, Minot and formerly of Sawyer died on Sunday, September 16, 2012 in a Garrison nursing home.
Mary was born on November 27, 1915 on the family farm near Sawyer, ND to Paul and Louisa (Schuler) Schlecht. She was reared on the family farm and attended rural schools in that area. As a young adult she assisted her parents and family with the operation of the farm.
Mary married Edmund Lang on October 6, 1942 near Sawyer. They made their home in Minot where she was employed as a dining room waitress for many years at the Minot Country Club and Gordon's Holiday Spot. Following her "retirement" she was employed by the Minot Public School system as a baker at Jim Hill Junior High School. Later in life, she and Ed were the custodians at First Baptist Church for five years. Ed died on October 12, 1999. Mary had continued to reside in Minot most recently at Somerset Court.
Mary was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Minot and its XYZ fellowship organization, AWANA and was a Sunday school teacher. She especially enjoyed bowling, embroidery, baking and was a very hardworking lady who was meticulous when it came to cleaning her home.
Mary is survived by her grandchildren: Todd (Ann) Lang, Troy (Amanda) Lang and Taylor Lang all of Minot and Sandra (Cameron) Haugen of Bismarck; great grandchildren: Payton, Jeffrey and Natalie; sister: Paulina "Polly" Christian of St. Cloud MN; sister-in-law: Leona Lang of Minot; special friends: Kathy and Mike Coughlin and Glenn and Gloria Schumaier all of Minot and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son: Steven Lang, sisters: Annie Mittleider and Alvina Gleason and brothers: Jake and Matt Schlecht.
Funeral Service
: Thursday, September 20, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in First Baptist Church - Minot.
Interment
will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens - Minot.
Visitation
: Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
Memorials
are preferred to First Baptist Church or the XYZ Fellowship.
