Mary Ann Butts, 82, Minot, passed away Wednesday, October 7,2020 in a Minot hospital.
Mary Ann was born November 21, 1937 in Iowa City, Iowa. She was adopted by Frederick and Alta (Gregg) Witzigman at age of 4 months from a Methodist Orphanage. This adoption was facilitated by a family member who was a Methodist minister. She was raised and educated in various places as her father was a Hydrological Engineer working for the Corp of Engineers. As a young girl she and her family traveled on the Ocean to Panama for her father's new assignment on the Panama Canal. Where her family lived in government stilt housing. In the early 1940's her father was transferred, and the family moved to Concord, Mass for his next assignment. Her stories of life during WWII and how they had endured periodic black outs due to the threats of German ships and submarines. Next, her family came to ND to work on the Garrison Dam and they resided in Riverdale, ND. She graduated from Riverdale High school in 1956. She met Duane J Butts in Riverdale and he began asking her to be his girlfriend in the 4 th Grade. She said no and never dated until after graduation.
Mary Ann was united in marriage to Duane J Butts on November 29 th , 1958. Duane was an Iron worker which lead to travel through the Western US. They lived in Montana and started a family then onto Wenatchee, Washington and added three more. The made their final home in Minot, ND. She was employed at Minot High School in the Central Campus library for 15 years until becoming employed with Faith United Methodist Church as their secretary for the next 10 years. She also worked in airport security at the Minot Municipal Airport and The Better Half clothing store in Town and Country shopping center.
Mary Ann was a member of Faith United Methodist Church where she was involved in the United Methodist Women, sang in the choir and enjoyed all the church activities. She was a past member of North Hill Church where she blessed them with her musical talent as their organist.
Mary Ann Enjoyed reading, embroidery, cross-stitching, quilting and was an accomplished seamstress. Mary Ann loved all sports. She was an avid fan and attended most Minot High School sporting events until she was unable. She was a social butterfly and had many friends, every one of them loved her. She had an infectious laugh, pretty smile and beautiful blue eyes. If Mary Ann had one wish it would be for family to mend their differences and take more time to enjoy each other while they are here.
Mary Ann's loving family includes her sons, Mike Butts of Minot, and his daughters, Kelsie Breitkreutz and her husband Dustin and AJ Kremer and her wife Lisa, Scott Butts and his wife Maureen and their twin boys, Charlie and Johnny of Apex, NC, daughters, Lori Oak and her husband Brian and their children, Taylor Butts and his wife Shasta, Tanner Kubas, Hope Krueger and Hunter Barnstable of Fargo, ND, Tamara LaCoste and her husband Calvin and her daughter Hailie Mayfield of Minot; great grandchildren Dominic Tronnes, Tayla Butts, Teagan Kubas , Haven Hopkins and Great great grandson Grayson Volk; sister, Cynthia Witzigman of Minneapolis, MN.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents, husband Duane, granddaughter Faith and numerous family members.
Celebration of Life Service: 4:00 p.m. Saturday, October 10, 2020 at Faith United Methodist Church, Minot.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park. Minot.
Visitation: 3:00 p.m. Saturday, October 10, 2020 at Faith United Methodist Church, Minot.
