Marvy Mariner, 83, Minot, died Tuesday, September 05, 2017, in a Minot hospital.
Marvy was born on Friday, July 13, 1934, in Burke County, ND to Henry and Mae (Gleave) Mariner. He moved to Kenmare at an early age with his family where he learned the family business as a fourth-generation water well driller.
In his youth, Marvy delivered mail and groceries on horseback in the winter months. At the age of thirteen, he started his own water well drilling business, Marvy Mariner Drilling Service. Marvy was a staple in the water well drilling business in western North Dakota for over 65 years. He served as President and Director of the ND/SD Water Well Drillers Association for several years. He retired from drilling in 2012.
As a young teenager, he was a rodeo bull rider and carried the love of rodeo and horses his entire life. He enjoyed Sprint Car Racing and was involved as an avid fan and as a sponsor of his passion for racing for many years. He was a collector of guns, was known to play a few hands of pinochle but poker was often his game of choice.
Marvy was once joined in marriage to Ruth Wolkhenauer in 1951. This union was blessed with a son, Jim. They moved to Minot in the early 1950's. He was united in marriage to Elneeta Padgett. Together, they raised their family in Minot for over twenty-five years until Elneeta passed away in 1989. Marvy married Pam Drake in 1999. They enjoyed over twenty years of companionship and love. He will be missed by all who shared in his life.
His surviving family includes his loving wife, Pam, Minot; children, Jim (Shannon) Mariner, Des Lacs, ND, Angie (Tim) Schalesky, New Auburn, WI, Pam Evans, Burlington, ND, Bev (Andy) Rapp, Eagle Creek, OR and Chuck (Dawn) Evans, Richfield, MN; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Dyna Fry, Anacortes, WA and Chummy (Art) Hill, Cedor-Woolley, WA; brother, Les (Jennie) Mariner, Kenmare, ND, and many nieces and nephews.
Marvy was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Elneeta; sisters, Ruby Fladstol and Ollie Peterson; and brother, Mike Mariner.
Funeral Service:
10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 9, 2017 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Minot.
Interment:
Lakeview Cemetery, Kenmare, ND
Visitation:
Friday, September 8, 2017, from 3:00 p.m. 6:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home.
