Marvin Arthur Whisker, 89, Minot, formerly of New Rockford, died Tuesday, January 26, 2010 in a Minot Nursing Home.

Marvin was born March 7, 1920 at New Rockford, ND, the son of Charles and Anna (Edwald) Whisker.

He was raised and educated in New Rockford and was employed as a baker in New Rockford, before enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1942. He was discharged in November of 1943 and returned to North Dakota.

Marvin was united in marriage to Florence Fryer on December 4, 1945 at Fessenden. They made their home in Harvey, Rugby, and Kenmare, before coming to Minot in the late 1940's, where Marvin worked as a carman Inspector with the Great Northern Railroad and later with Burington Northern, until his retirement in 1982.

Marvin had entered Trinity Homes in 2007 and Florence died October 20, 2008.

Marvin was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, the American Legion Post #26 in Minot, and the Railroad local union #816.

He is survived by his Daughters, Diane (Charles) Van Grinsven, Forest City, IA and Laurie (Asa) Keener, Mandan; Grandchildren: Michael (Beth) Van Grinsven, David (Mary)Van Grinsven, Jeffrey (Angie) Van Grinsven, Cynthia Van Grinsven, Amanda Whisker, Ashleigh (Joshua) Wright, AsaBon Keener; Great Grandchildren, Brittany, Melissa, Emily, Alexis, Michael, William, Catherine, Madeline, Hannah, Charles, Lillian, Shaun & Hayleigh.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Florence, sisters, Leah, Mary & Arlene and brothers, Lonnie, Clifford, Deleno and Ralph, Clarence and Lloyd.

Funeral service: Monday, February 1, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Interment: ND Veteran's Cemetery, Mandan, ND,
Visitation: Sunday from Noon-5:00pm in the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
