Marvin Unterseher , 84, Velva, passed away peacefully in his home, May 8, 2024. He Lived an exhilarating life and touched the lives of many.
Marvin was born June 21, 1939, in Killdeer to Jacob and Edna Unterseher. His family moved to a farm near Hazen in 1949, and later relocated to a farm near Beulah in 1955. Marvin enjoyed helping on the farm and riding horses as a young boy.
Marvin enlisted in 1957, he joined the U.S. Army. After completing 16 weeks of basic training at Fort Carson, Colorado, he was stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, where he attended jump school and served as a corporal paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division, completing 20 successful jumps. He returned home in 1959 and worked on the family farm.
In 1961, Marvin accepted a line worker position at Verendrye Electric Cooperative. After 24 years of climbing poles and working on live power lines, he was promoted to the position of operations supervisor, which he held until retiring in 2002.
Marvin married Connie, the love of his life, in 1975, combining two families. They built a home together in Velva, where he lived until his death.
Throughout his lifetime, Marvin was committed to serving his community. In addition to serving as a part-time police officer, he was instrumental in the creation of the Velva Ambulance Service. He volunteered as an EMT alongside his wife and daughter, Renee, and provided training to many volunteers.
In his free time, Marvin enjoyed gardening, wood cutting, yard work, helping his neighbors, and spending time with family. He was also a proud owner of a 1968 Ford Grand Torino, a car which he owned for many years and kept in pristine condition. Marvin was a longtime member of Oak Valley Lutheran Church where he enjoyed attending Sunday service and singing hymns.
Marvin is survived by his wife, Connie; children, Renee (Brad) Harju, Renell (Steve) Kvall, Gwyn (Loren) Duchsherer, Charity (Dalynn) Ottmar, Ernie (Rita) Charnetzki, Jackie (Allen) Mcllvaine, and Judi (Shawn Kaylor) Snyder; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Allan Unterseher.
Funeral Service:
Friday May 17th, 2024, starting at 11:00 a.m. in Oak Valley Lutheran Church, Velva. A
