Obituary

Marvin H. Godejohn , 83, Burlington, ND died Thursday, November 02, 2017, in a Minot hospital from natural causes of COPD.

Marvin was born September 9, 1934 in Powers Lake, North Dakota to Harvey and Julia (Myre) Godejohn. He was reared and completed his education as a graduate of Coteau High School in 1953.

Marvin moved to the 'Magic City' of Minot and was drafted into the US Army April 23, 1957. He honorably served his country for the next five years until his discharge from active duty through the Army National Guard on January 26, 1962.

Marvin was once married to Verna Jungberg. They resided in Minot, where Marvin was self-employed as a carpet installer.

Marvin was joined in marriage to Arliss (Klevenberg) Podtburg-Gregory on November 19, 1976, in Minot. They made their home in Burlington and together owned and operated Marvelous Carpet Service until they retired in 1994. They enjoyed ten years of wintering in Salome, AZ. Marvin picked up a part-time gig at Westlie Motor Company driving for the company for the past 10 years.

He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Burlington and the Minot American Legion. He also carried a life membership to the VFW in East St. Cloud, MN. Marvin took the time to travel and enjoyed the time he spent woodworking at home.

His surviving family includes loving wife of nearly 41 years, Arliss, Burlington; children, Shelly (Kevin) Adams, Kirk Godejohn, Rodney (Melissa) Godejohn all of Minot and Michael (Joyce) Podtburg, Little Falls, MN; 12 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; brother-in-law, John Nelson, Minot, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Sherry Podtburg, brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Betty Godejohn, sister, Janet Nelson and two nephews.

Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 10, 2017 at Peace Lutheran Church, Burlington.
Interment: Burlington Township Cemetery, Burlington, ND
Visitation: Thursday, November 9, 2017 from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
In lieu of plants and flowers, memorials are preferred to Burlington Senior Citizens Elevator Project.
