Obituary

Marvin Kenneth Domsten, 73, longtime Burlington resident, died on Tuesday, September 29, 2009 in a Minot hospital.

Marvin was born on March 22, 1936 in Kenmare, ND to Jens and Edna (Erickson) Domsten. He was reared near Coulee, ND and moved with his family to Minot in 1942. He attended school in Minot. As a young adult he was employed in the warehouse of Holmes Electric.

Marvin married Sylvia Peterson on June 20, 1959 in First Lutheran Church - Minot. They made their home in Minot where he continued with Holmes Electric. Marvin served nine years in the North Dakota Army National Guard including active duty during the Berlin Crisis of 1961-1962 and was stationed in Fort Riley, Kansas. He returned to Minot and his previous employment. In 1975, he became a licensed electrician and continued with Holmes Electric as a journeyman electrician. In 1986, he began employment as a civil service electrician at the Minot Air Force Base. He retired in 1997 due to a heart attack.

Marvin was a charter member of Peace Lutheran Church in Burlington, ND and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (I.B.E.W.). He was a member of the Minot Camera Club and received several awards for his photographs. He was a former member of the Eagles Aerie - Minot. He especially enjoyed leatherwork, woodburning, computer work, genealogy research and doing art work. Marvin and Sylvia loved attending the grandchildren's various activities.

Marvin's loving family includes his wife of 50 years, Sylvia; children, Randy (Rhonda) Hartley; Janell (Mackey) Roy; Shan Domsten (special friend Karen Austin); and Doug (Beth) Domsten, all of Minot, ND; Grandchildren: Heather and Holden Hartley, Greg Vannatta, Tylor and Ethan Domsten as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents and sisters: Emily Newman and Virginia Rhodes.

Funeral Service: Saturday, October 3, 2009 at 2:30 p.m. in Peace Lutheran Church - Burlington.
Interment: Burlington Cemetery
Visitation: Friday from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
Memorials are preferred to Community Action Partnership-Minot Region or Metigoshe Ministries.
