Obituary

Martha Olga Musch, 99, Minot, formerly of the Burlington area, died Monday, March 4, 2019 at her apartment in Edgewood with hospice and family by her side.

Martha was born February 9, 1920, to Peter and Johanna (Flolo) Sande on the family farm near Coulee, North Dakota. She was raised there and attended country schools near Coulee and graduated from Kenmare High School in 1938. She then moved to the Seattle, Washington area, where she was employed at a defense factory to support the war effort during World War II.

After the War, she returned to North Dakota and began work at St. Joseph's Hospital in Minot as a nurses aide. It was here that she met Richard "Dick" Musch and they were married on December 22, 1944. They made their home on a farm near Burlington, where they were blessed with six children and raised small grains and cattle. Upon retirement, they moved into Burlington in 1990 and Dick died March 14, 1997. Martha had continued to live in Burlington until October of 2015 when she moved to Edgewood - Minot. Her family would like to thank the staff of Edgewood for their loving care.

Martha was a longtime active member of Zion Lutheran Church, Minot. She was also a member of the Friendly Burlington Senior Citizens and greatly appreciated the fun and friendships that she gained there. She loved the opportunity to feed her friends and family, whether it was a holiday meal or coffee and homemade baked goods. She was especially known for her amazing breads and buns! She loved a game of pinochle or other card games, visiting and an occasional trip to the casino.

Her loving family includes, children, Geraldine Moeckel, Scottsdale, AZ, Susan Roise (Harold Zimmer) Minot, ND, Joan Musch (Greg Baird), Portland, OR, Steven Musch (Terrie Thomas), Oklahoma City, OK, Donald (Barbara) Musch, Farmington, MN; grandchildren, Spencer Musch and Maria Madigan, Jamison Moeckel and Noele Moeckel, Chris Roise and Stephanie Roise-Yamashita; great grandchildren, Richard Musch, Hunter Musch, RaeAnna Madigan and Ronni Madigan, Aspen Moeckel, Sierra Roise and Erik Roise, Owen Yamashita and Lauren Yamashita and a number of nieces and nephews.

Martha was preceded in death by: her parents; husband of 53 years, Dick; son, Jim; son in law, Larry Moeckel; siblings: Art (Laurette) Sande, Alfred (Hattie) Sande; Jennie (Fred) Rittenbach, Carrie (Leslie) Smith, Viola (Bill) Gronenthal and infant twin brothers.

Celebration of Life service: Saturday, March 9, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in Zion Lutheran Church, Minot. The family prefers that casual attire be worn for the service.  To view video of Service select: https://vimeo.com/322487988/6426839ce3
Interment: St Mary's Cemetery, Rural Foxholm, ND later in the Spring of 2019.
Visitation: Friday, March 8th from 5:00-7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
In lieu of flowers or plants, the family prefers memorials be designated to Metigoshe Ministries, Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch or Zion Lutheran Church.
