Martha Mason, 93, Minot and formerly of Beulah died on Friday, April 4, 2014 in a Minot nursing home.
Martha was born on February 18, 1921 in Beulah, ND. She was the fifth of ten children born to John and Katharina (Voegele) Unruh. Martha was reared and attended school in Beulah. She was an excellent softball player that played on the Beulah team along with two of her sisters against area community teams. Also, she was an excellent seamstress and made clothes for herself and others.
Martha married Tyler Mason on November 17, 1940 in Marion, ND. They made their home in Beulah where she was employed by the Beulah Drug Store for many years. They moved to Minot in 1958 where Martha was employed as a seamstress at Minot Steam Laundry and she assisted her husband in the construction of their home in Tierracita Vallejo near Minot. Tyler was employed out of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union #627. She retired in 1983. Tyler died on January 23, 1988. Martha had continued to reside in Minot most recently at Trinity Homes.
Martha attended Faith United Methodist Church and Vincent United Methodist Church and was also a member of a local square dance club. Her hobbies and special interests included gardening, sewing and woodworking.
Martha is survived by her brother Dale (Mylo) Unruh of Thornton, CO; in-laws: Shirley Unruh of Jamestown and David Hausauer of Beulah; her special friend and caretaker Dave Carl of Minot and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents, husband, siblings: William, Paul and John Unruh and Alvina Ribail, Anne Hausauer, Hilda Hermann, Bertha Schmidt and Helen Weiss.
Graveside Service at the Woodbine Cemetery - Valley City in the summer of 2014.
Visitation: Friday, April 11, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
Memorials are preferred to North Dakota Alzheimer\'s Foundation.
