Marlys Storbeck, 77, Minot, died Wednesday, September 23, 2015, in a Minot hospital.
Marlys was born July 2, 1938, in a sod house located near Makoti, ND, to Palmer and Flora (Edwardson) Mollerud. She moved with her family to Minot, where she attended school and graduated with the Minot High School Class of 1956. During her school years, she was employed as a nurse's aide in Minot.
Marlys was united in marriage to Fred Storbeck on September 28, 1956, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Minot. They made their home in Minot on the same property for the next 56 years, which included a short time living in Burlington and the building of their dream home in 1977.
They were blessed with three children, whom she provided a loving home over the years. Family was her legacy and she enjoyed the priceless time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, most often spoiling them with made to order meals of their favorite items. She was known to say, "Don't bother making it if it isn't homemade from scratch!" "The Grans," as she was affectionately known by her grandchildren, menu often included homemade buns, cocoa or an apple danish. She enjoyed gardening and canning which perfectly complimented her cooking abilities.
Prior to her husband Fred's death on August 29, 1989, she was his partner in ownership and operation of Arrow Parking Lot and Garage. Her new life path included reentry into the workforce with First Minot Management as a secretary, following the completion of computer coursework later that same year. She worked a number of years until she retired.
Marlys was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Minot. She was 100% Norwegian and "UFF DA MADA!" she would often exclaim, she was proud of her heritage. Marlys loved attending Hostfest each year for the food, entertainment and most of all for the conversation with family and friends. She will be missed by all who shared in her life.
Marlys's loving family includes, daughters, Joni (Tim) Boger, Minot and Sherry (Buzz) Pederson, Alexandria, MN; grandchildren, Cody Gutknecht, Bryce (fianc Alli Hystad) Gutknecht, Summer Gutknecht, Kylar Bail, Melissa (Keith) Wolfe, Marissa (Jeremy) Mclain, TJ (Amber Trail) Boger, Brandon (Corbin Zerr) Storbeck and Megan Storbeck, great-grandchildren, Anna Wolfe, Jaryn Bennett, Samuel Wolfe, Keegan Mclain, Kayden Gutknecht, Quincy Schuler, Teagyn Forsberg, Jersey Selzler and Berkley Selzler; siblings, Viola 'Tootsie' (Marvin) Zablotney, Garrison, ND, Delano (Gail) Mollerud, Berthold, ND, Linda Sebens, Monticello, IL, Flossie Larimore, Milmine, IL, Rodney (Shellee) Fuss, Monticello, IL and Pamela (Ronald) Strickland, Anthem, Arizona and numerous nieces and nephews.
Marlys was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Fred, son, Fred B. Storbeck, an infant brother, Myron Mollerud, and a sister, Prue Beeter and a special sister-in-law, Shirley Storbeck.
Funeral Service: 2:00 Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Minot, ND.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 28, 2015 from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to Salvation Army of Minot.
