Marlyn Dwayne "Festus" Hagen , 79, rural Minot, formerly of Stanley, died Wednesday, December 18, 2024, in his home surrounded by his loving family and hospice.
Marlyn was born September 22, 1945 in Minot, North Dakota, the son of Harold and Delores (Trulson) Hagen. He was raised and educated in Stanley and graduated from Stanley High School. He attended Wahpeton State School of Science before joining his father in the Hagen Plumbing and Heating business in Stanley.
He was then drafted into the U.S. Army in 1965 and served a two-year tour of duty in Germany. He was honorably discharged and worked for Boeing Airlines and then Livestock Auctions in Williston and Minot until they were closed. Later he worked for the Rochester Armored Car Company in Minot for several years until his retirement in 2020.
Marlyn was united in marriage to Linda Gehring on June 11, 1994. They made their home near Minot.
Marlyn was a member of the Gold Wing Riders Motorcycle group. He owned and loved horses and was known as a horse trader throughout his life. He enjoyed reading western novels, especially Louis L' Amour books. He also loved to visit with people and watch westerns and rodeos on tv.
His loving family includes, wife, Linda Hagen, Minot; children and step-children, Nancy (Hyland Layne) Hagen, Valier, MT; Paula (Shane) McLoughlin, Minot; Shannon Zuther and Stacy (Toni) Zuther, both of Minot; 8 grandchildren & 5 great grandchildren; siblings, Greg (Kim) Hagen, Lake Metigoshe, ND; Larry (Nancy) Hagen, Stanley, ND; sisters in law, Marilyn Hagen of Florida, Marcy Bickler of Anamoose, ND and a brother in law, Larry & Karen Gehring of Minot; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Marlyn was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Elroy; sister, LaDonna and an infant sister: Marjorie.
