Marlo J. Ofsthun, 81, Minot, died Tuesday, January 18, 2011, in a Minot hospital.

Marlo was born April 26, 1929, in Minot, ND to Roy and Manda (Harstad) Ofsthun. He was raised on the family farm located between Surrey and Norwich, ND and graduated from Surrey High School in 1947. He completed his education at Minot Business College.

Marlo was united in marriage to Lucille Woessner on April 26, 1951, at First Lutheran Church in Minot. They made their home in Minot, where he was employed in various capacities that included: twelve years as a bookkeeper and parts man for Tractor Supply, a cab driver for fifteen years for Ace Checker, and as a custodian for Bethany Lutheran Church for eleven years, until retiring in 1993.

He was a longtime member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Moose Lodge and Eagle's Aerie, where he assisted with the Bingo program. His life enjoyments included traveling, playing bingo, watching local softball games in Minot, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

His loving family includes: loving wife of 59 years, Lucille, Minot; daughter, Cindy (Neil) Nygaard, Minot; son, Craig Ofsthun, Minot; grandchildren, Brent (Christi Schwager) Nygaard and Brandon Ofsthun; great-granddaughters, Naomi and Vreelyn Nygaard; sister, Shirley (Bob) Smith, Bismarck, ND; brother, Duane (Jean) Ofsthun, Minot, ND; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral service : Friday, January 21, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot.
Interment: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot.
Visitation : Thursday, January 20, 2011, from 2:00-7:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
In lieu of flowers or plants, memorials are preferred to Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot.
