Obituary

Marlin Joseph "Marly" Laumb, 79, Berthold died on Wednesday, March 24, 2010 in a Minot nursing home.

Marlin was born on November 23, 1930 in Minot to Joe and Marie (Engebretson) Laumb. He attended Sunnyside Elementary School in Minot for a few years, continued his education in Foxholm and graduated from Berthold High School in 1948. He was raised by his uncle and aunt Otto and Olga Olson.

Marlin married Joan Ronningen on November 28, 1950 in Berthold. From this union five children were born. Marlin had a love for agriculture from his early years. He farmed with his uncle, Otto, and began working for the Great Northern Railroad, now the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad in 1953. He retired from farming and the railroad in 1991.

Marlin was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church - Berthold and the (BMWE) Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees.

He took great pride in his grandchildren and great grandchildren, was an avid bird watcher and enjoyed reading and keeping in touch with family and friends.

Marlin's loving family includes his wife of 59 years Joan; children: Thomas (Cynthia) and Gregory (Linda) both of Berthold and Barbara (Ronald) Shupe of Bismarck; grandchildren: Brian (Kellie) Laumb of Dickinson, Jason (Margaret) Laumb of Grand Forks, Heidi (Christopher) Brown, Megan (Troy) Skalicky and Wayne (Serena) Laumb all of Minot, Carmen (Brandon) Boren of Fort Lewis, WA, Bill (Shawn) Hoflen of Rutland and Liz Hoflen of Fargo; great grandchildren: Hannah and Eleanor Laumb, Ellesen Laumb, Catelyn Laumb and Auria Boren; Siblings: Alice George of Phoenix and Gust Laumb of Nampa, ID; brother-in-law: Jim (Ruth) Ronningen of Minot and step sister-in-law: Patsy (Maynard) Anderson of Carpio and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Marlin was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Marie, uncle and aunt Otto and Olga Olson, daughters: Mary Jo and Judith Kay, sisters: Marion Scott and Helen Ayers and half sister: Shirley Geisler.

Funeral Service: Sunday, March 28, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in Zion Lutheran Church - Berthold.
Interment
will be later in the Spring at Wildrose Cemetery - Berthold.
Visitation:
Saturday from noon until 5:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
