Obituary

Marilyn Yvonne Anderson, 85, Minot died on Monday, August 14, 2017 in her home.

Marilyn was born on January 6, 1932 in Minot to Manuel and Elsie Dahl. She was raised and educated in Minot, graduated from Minot High School in 1950 and from North Dakota State University with a degree in Home Economics in 1954. She was very proud to have been a member of the Queen's Court at MHS.

Marilyn married Robert W. Anderson on December 28, 1954 at Vincent United Methodist Church in Minot. They made their home in the Fargo area while Bob finished his degree in Architecture. Following his graduation they returned to Minot where she was a fulltime wife, mother of four children and homemaker. Bob was a Minot Architect for many years who was a founder of the Anderson, Wade and Whitty PC Firm. After all of her children were in school she returned to the classroom as a substitute teacher, primarily in Home Economics, in the Minot Public School System. Bob died on July 22, 2001. Marilyn had continued to reside in Minot.

Marilyn was a member of First Lutheran Church, PEO Chapter AL, Kappa Kappa Gamma at NDSU and the Home Economics Teachers Association. Marilyn enjoyed baking, crafts, gardening and family get-togethers. She created beautiful weavings on a large loom and received numerous awards at the North Dakota State Fair for her woven wall hangings. Marilyn was invited to model her traditional Norwegian Bunad (dress) and demonstrated weaving on her large floor loom at the Norsk Hostfest. She also supervised the Scandinavian Kitchens at the Hostfest for a time.

Another passion for Marilyn was studying her numerous cookbooks. She was especially proud of her creation "Prairie Rhubarb Twist Pie". This recipe earned her special recognition at the North Dakota State Fair and a trip to a national competition in Nashville, TN. Her friends and family would always look forward to testing her new recipes and creations.

She also enjoyed creating floral gardens for her family and friends to enjoy during many backyard barbecues. We all have many fond memories of our times together. She will be dearly missed.

Marilyn's loving family includes her children: Jennifer (Marlowe) Johnson of Minot, Becky Polk of Winter Park FL, Mark Anderson of Harrisburg PA, and Sheri Anderson of Mt. Prospect, IL; grandchildren: Michael, Marcus, Matthew, Kelli, Ashley and Allison; great grandchildren: Easton, Knox, Bryce, Brayden, Naomi and Antonio; siblings: Barbara Samuelson of Minot and Gary Dahl of San Jose, CA; sister-in-law: Dorothy Anderson of Minot and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
