Obituary

Marie Elizabeth Kallberg, 92, Garrison, formerly of Minot and Flaxton, died Friday, November 18, 2011 in the Benedictine Living Center - Garrison.

Marie was born on November 4, 1919, near Flaxton to Fred and Guri (Haugen) Kostad. She was reared on the family farm and educated in Dane Township rural schools . As a young adult she assisted on the family farm and was employed by area families performing household duties.

Marie married Carl Kallberg on June 29, 1941, in Lignite. They made their home on a farm near Flaxton, in Dale Township of Burke County, where they raised their five children and farmed for almost 40 years. Marie and Carl moved to Minot in 1983. Most recently they moved to Garrison in January of 2009. Carl died on December 7, 2010.

Marie was a former member of the Augustana Lutheran Church in Lignite where she was a member of circles at both churches and did volunteer work. While living in Minot, they had attended Christ Lutheran Church.

She enjoyed traveling, quilting, gardening, crocheting, baking, and sewing especially Norwegian embroidery.

Her loving family includes : children, LaVerne (Bonnie) Kallberg, Colorado Springs, CO, Allen Kallberg, Clinton, IA, Melroy (Vicki) Kallberg, Dent, MN, Connie (James) Huff, Sand Springs, OK; daughter-in-law, Kay (Dean) Lee, Garrison, ND; grandchildren, Tyson Kallberg, Richard & Kevin Kallberg, Tina Reed, Kim Christensen, John & Russell Kallberg, Jeremy & Michael Lee; 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Geneva (Donald) Nelson, Desert Air, WA; brother, Oscar, Fargo, ND and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Dean Kallberg; infant son, Keith Kallberg; granddaughter, Juliet Kallberg; great-grandson, Jason Kallberg; sisters Clara Christiansen and Wilma Burner, and brothers, Lewis, Art and Raymond.

Funeral service: Monday, November 21 , 2011, at 11:00 a.m. in Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot

Graveside Service : Monday at 3:00 p.m. in the Flaxton Cemetery.

Visitation: Sunday from noon until 5:00 p.m. p.m. in the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.

Memorials are preferred to the Christ Lutheran Church Flood Recovery Fund.
