Marie Magdalen Hager, 89, Surrey, died Thursday, August 27, 2015 in a Velva Nursing Care Center.

Marie was born January 24, 1926 at Selz, North Dakota the daughter of Peter and Helen (Schmalz) Volk. She was raised and educated in the Selz area and assisted with the operation of the family farmstead after high school.

Marie was united in marriage to George Hager on September 18, 1946 at Selz. They made their home at Selz, before moving to Surrey in 1950. In addition to her raising their five children, she was employed for the City of Surrey as a property tax assessor for a time. George died May 21, 1981. Marie moved to Edgewood Vista for two years, prior to moving to the Souris Valley Care Center in 2014.

Marie was a former member of St. Mary Magdaline Catholic Church in Selz. She was also a member of St Leo's Catholic Church, where she served the congregation as a Eucharistic minister and provided communion to the homebound, and its Confraternity of Christian Mothers, the Surrey Homemakers and Surrey Senior Citizens.

Marie's especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, crocheting, gardening, canning and doing word find puzzles.

Her loving family includes, daughter, Diana (Larry) Goodman, Minot, Helen Dravland, Ashley, ND and Rose Moore, Redwood Falls, MN; Jerome (Karen) Hager, Minot; 7 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; brothers, Daniel Volk, Harvey Leo (Agatha) Volk, Selz, ND & Antone (Sally) Volk, Selz, ND; sister, Helen Volk, Harvey, ND; several nieces and nephews.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, George, son, Henry "Hank" Hager, brother, Leonard and sister in law, Alice Volk.

Mass of Christian Burial: Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at Noon in St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot.
Vigil Prayer Service : Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation: Tuesday from 3:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to the American Lung Association or organization of the donor's choice.
