Obituary

Marian Evangeline Lorraine (Amodt) Ringdahl , age 94, Bottineau and formerly of Minot and Williston, died Friday, July 27 2018 at the Good Samaritan Care Center Bottineau, North Dakota. The family is grateful for the gracious and tender care Marian received from the Good Samaritan staff during her eight year struggle with dementia.

Marian was born May 13, 1924, to Edward and Mattie (Nelson) Amodt on the family farm near Overly, ND. She was baptized and confirmed at Willow Creek Lutheran Church, Overly and a graduate of Overly High School class of 1942.

Following high school Marian attended Minot State Teachers College (Minot State University) and obtained a standard degree. In 1947, she graduated from the Good Samaritan School of Nursing in Rugby, ND. Marian worked as a Registered Nurse at Cook County Hospital, Chicago; Good Samaritan Hospital, Rugby; and Trinity Hospital, Minot. In 1951, she received her BS degree from Minot State Teachers College and began an elementary teaching career in Minot that continued until her retirement in 1986.

On February 25, 1956, Marian was married to William (Bill) Ringdahl at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, Iowa. They lived in Minot until Bill's death in 1999; Marian continued to live in their home until 2008. Before moving to Bottineau Marian lived in Williston with daughter Lorna and David.

Marian loved learning, loved teaching, loved North Dakota and loved traveling with husband Bill. She enjoyed the outdoors, especially at the Lake Metigoshe cabin and her beloved home farm where she was raised near Overly.

A lifelong Lutheran, Marian was a member of First Lutheran Church in Minot where she joined Lutheran Daughters of the Reformation while still in college. Later she taught Sunday school, participated in Bible studies, Women of the ELCA, and quilting. Her faith informed her passions for children and reading, women's health, stewardship of the earth and the North Dakota prairie.

Marian is survived by daughter Lorna (David) Halaas, Sioux City, IA; grandson Heath (Lia) Pengilly, Colorado Springs, CO; and great-grandson Heath Pengilly, Jr.

She was preceded in death by husband, William Ringdahl, parents, Edward and Mattie Amodt, and brother, Kermit Amodt.
