Obituary

Margaret Kathern Olson, 86, Minot, ND, died Monday at Golden Living in Rush City, MN.

Margaret Schumacher was born December 13, 1927, near Kenmare, ND to Frank and Marie (Hoffman) Schumacher. She received her elementary education in a rural school near Kenmare and completed her education with the graduating class of Kenmare High School in 1946.

She started her career in food service at the local bakery in Kenmare in addition to logging hours for Kenmare Steam Laundry.

Margaret was united in marriage to H. Burton 'Burt' Olson on April 22, 1948 in Kenmare. They lived in rural Burlington and later near Minot, before moving into Minot in 1962. Margaret gained employment as a cook at Saint Leo's School followed by Bishop Ryan High School and Behm's Restaurant prior to joining St. Joseph's Hospital staff where she served meals for the next 17 years until her retirement in 1991.

Margaret was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot, and was an active member of the Confraternity of Christian Mothers. Her hobbies included knitting, crocheting, reading and baking her famous buns. She will be missed by all who shared in her life.

Margaret's loving family includes, her children, Dan (Vickie) Olson, Minot, Wilma (Ken) Buzzard, Tucson, AZ, Mary (Bennie Jr.) Wegener, Ridgecrest, CA, James (Nancy) Olson, Minot, Bridgett (Fred) Bly, Isanti, MN; twelve grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren; sister, Hilda Weaver, Chineok, MT, brothers, Frank Schumacher, Kalispel, MT, Jim Schumacher, Kenmare, ND and Luke Schumacher, Kenmare, ND along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Burton, son, Roger; an infant sister Agnes Schumacher; sisters, Dorothy Hanrahan and Mary Russell, and brothers, Joe and Lawrence Schumacher.

Mass of Christian Burial: Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in St Leos Catholic Church, Minot.
Vigil Prayer Service: Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Interment: Thursday, July 17, 2014 at Noon in the ND Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND.
Visitation : At the request of family, there will not be a reviewal, however friends may sign the memorial register on Tuesday from 3:00-6:00p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
In lieu of flowers or plants, memorials are preferred to the St. Leo's Catholic Church Building Fund.
