Margaret E. "Mugs" Aakrann, 96, Minot, died Monday, July 10, 2006, at Trinity Nursing Home in Minot, where she had resided the past six years.
Margaret was born March 31, 1910, at Minot, North Dakota, the daughter of Thomas and Dora (O' Neil) Thorson. She was raised and educated in Minot, graduating from Minot High School in 1928, and later from Trinity School of Nursing in 1931. She continued her schooling at the University of Minnesota, where she received special training in pediatrics.
Margaret was united in marriage to Morton Aakrann on September 18, 1935, at Vancouver, Washington. They made their home in Minot throughout the years. Mort died August 3, 1986.
Margaret continued to make her home in Minot, spending winters at their home in Tucson and Mesa, Arizona.
Margaret was a longtime member of First Lutheran Church. She was a member of the Minot Gun Club for many years and was the first woman accepted into the North Dakota Trapshooting Hall of Fame. She was also among a select number of women that had shot over 100,000 targets during her career.
Her loving family includes : Nieces: Jill Thorson Reiswig, Plymouth, MN; Joan Thorson De Konning, Portland, OR and Lila Fee, Columbus, OH and formerly of Williston, ND; a number of O'Neil cousins and great-nieces and great nephews.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers: John Oliver Thorson, Thomas Orrin Thorson and Donald O'Neil Thorson
Funeral service
; Friday, July 14, 2006, at 1:30 p.m. in Trinity Nursing Home Chapel, located at 305 8th Ave N.E., Minot
Interment
: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot
Visitation:
Thursday from 2:00 - 7:00 p.m. in the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot and one hour prior the service in the Chapel.
Memorials:
Memorials are preferred to the Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch, Minot.
