Mae Alice Steig, 83, Minot, and formerly of Souris, Butte, and Bottineau died on Monday, July 28, 2008 in a Minot hospital surrounded by her loving family.
Mae was born on May 31, 1925 in Bottineau, ND to Ole and Minnie (Berge) Knipen. She was raised and educated in Souris, ND and graduated from Souris High School in 1943.
Following graduation, Mae was employed at the Souris Post Office as a postal clerk. Mae was united in marriage to Otto Steig on November 27, 1949 in Souris, ND and they made their home there.
The family moved to Butte, ND in 1956, where Otto managed the Farmer's Union Oil Company and Mae assisted him as his secretary and office manager. They moved to Bottineau in 1965, where she continued to work in the office of the Farmers Union Oil Company. In 1968 the family moved to Minot. In 1973 they purchased a cleaning franchise and worked side by side in that business. Otto died on March 5, 2003.
Mae was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot and was a former active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Butte. She enjoyed playing cards, reading, and gardening.
Mae's loving family includes her children: Debra (Ken) Reinke, Minot, Don (Margaret) Steig, Sawyer, Dwight (Kathy) Steig, Minot, and Doreen (Von) Lynne, Plaza; nine grandchildren: Jason Reinke, Tina Garofolo, Brandy Johnson, Kelly Haman, Jayme Steig, Brianne Steig, Dane Steig, Brock Lynne, and Bryce Lynne; and six great-grandchildren: Brennan and Blake Haman, Samuel Steig, Jaxon and Keaton Reinke and Brayden Steig and three "on- the- way"
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Funeral:
Friday, August 1, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot.
Interment:
Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot
Visitation:
Thursday
from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
