Mabel Honadel, 92, Minot, formerly of Souris, died Thursday, November 18, 2010 in a Minot hospital.

Mabel was born January 8, 1918 at Souris, North Dakota, the daughter of Edward and Hanna (Norderhus) Skarphol. She was raised and educated at Souris and graduated from Souris High School in 1935. She received her teaching certificate from Minot Teacher's College in 1937 and taught at rural schools for two years. She then furthered her education by receiving a bachelor of arts degree in Secondary Education from Minot Teacher's College in 1941. She taught English and Physical Education at rural schools in Bottineau County for eight years.

Mabel was united in marriage to Harold Honadel on June 9, 1946 at rural Souris. They moved to Granville that same year, where he operated the Standard Oil Bulk Distributorship. In 1949, he was transferred to Minot, where together they raised their three children. Harold died January 4, 2005.

Mabel was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Minot, where she was active with the church circle group, ladies aid and Saints Alive. She taught the Bethel Bible Study Series at Christ Lutheran Church in Minot for many years. Mabel enjoyed quilting and sewing, making many quilts that were donated to Lutheran World Relief.

Her family includes: Children: Orlan "Ole" (Laurie) Honadel, Minot, Jon (Pat) Honadel, Minot and Carol (Clayne) Abrahamson, McClusky, ND; Grandchildren: Jon Honadel, Jr., Caleb Abrahamson, Mark (Alicia) Abrahamson, Tom (Kayla) Abrahamson, Karen (Steven) Pfeifer; Five Great Grandchildren; several Nieces and Nephews.

Mabel was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brothers, Haaken, Hans and Elmer.

Funeral service : Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mark's Lutheran, Minot.
Interment: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot.
Visitation: Monday from 2:00 - 7:00 p.m. in the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
