Mabel Naomi Fundingsland, 92, Minot passed away on Sunday, September 13, 2015 in a Minot healthcare center.
Mabel was born on October 13, 1922 in Iowa, the third of eight children, to Nels and Nelsine (Jorgensen) Rasmussen. Nels was a blacksmith. Mabel was reared there and in Maynard, MN where she graduated from high school and met the love of her life Dale Fundingsland.
Mabel and Dale were married on November 24, 1940 when they eloped as teenagers to Sacred Heart, MN. They made their home in Maynard prior to moving to Washington D.C. when Dale accepted a position with the U.S. Treasury. During World War II they made their home at military bases while Dale served as an Army Staff Sergeant responsible for artillery instruction. Following Dale's honorable discharge, the family lived in Chicago, Grand Forks and eventually settling in Minot in 1948 due to Dale's employment with the Railroad Retirement Board. While residing in Minot, Mabel was employed at Buttrey's Women's Wear and Sears.
Following Dale's retirement as the Office Manager of the Minot Railroad Retirement Board they spent the winter months in Mesa, AZ, and enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. Dale died on January 13, 2010. Mabel had continued to reside in Minot.
Mabel was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and its Ruth Circle. She was a member of several Bridge clubs, a study club, Danish Society and Criterion Club. She enjoyed golfing, traveling, volunteering at the Norsk Hostfest, hosting visitors to the Hostfest, attending church dinners, playing the penny slots at area casinos, sail boating and watching the Minnesota Twins.
Mabel's loving family includes her children: Sharon Paul of Billings, MT, Lynn Fundingsland of Fargo and Kim Fundingsland of Minot; grandchildren: Mike, Tahirih, Patrick, Mark, Steve, Jamie, Sara, Kelli, Jennifer and Lindsey; great grandchildren: Michael, Stephanie, and Myiah; sister: Janice (Duane) Marholz of Mayer, MN and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mabel was preceded in death by her parents, husband, children: Jerry and Jodi; granddaughter: Leah; great granddaughter: Kersten and siblings: Ray, Norma, Ted, Francis, Betty Mae and Oscar.
Celebration of the Life of Mabel Fundingsland: Thursday, September 17, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in Bethany Lutheran Church Minot.
Note: Due to the construction on Third Street SE, please access the Bethany Lutheran Church parking lot using the alley west of the church and proceed north (from Third Avenue) to the church lot.
Interment will be in Rosehill Memorial Park Minot.
Visitation: Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home Minot.
Memorials are preferred to Bethany Lutheran Church or the donor's choice.
