Obituary

Lynton H. Klimpel, 77, Velva, and longtime resident of Sawyer, ND died Saturday, April 6, 2019 in a Minot hospital.

Lynton was born January 14, 1942 in Minot, ND to Clifford and Bernice (Irwin) Klimpel. He was raised on the family farm and attended township schools and Sawyer High School.

Lynton was united in marriage to Carol Tofteland in a double ceremony on August 25, 1962 at Concordia Lutheran Parsonage in Benedict with Larry and Eileen Tofteland. They lived briefly in Stanley and Minot before settling in their hometown of Sawyer in 1973.

As a young man, Lynton worked various jobs until he found his passion as a heavy equipment operator, serving many years with Consolidated Coal Mine and Municipal Services Corp. He finished his career in construction with Industrial Builders, Inc. in 2005. He also supported his wife Carol with the operation of Sawyer Grocery for nearly 30 years. Carol passed away on November 27 th , 2015. He moved to Valley View Manor in Velva in December 2016.

Lynton was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Sawyer and Sawyer Senior Citizens. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, and he was especially proud of his granddaughter, 'Peanut', whom he loved very much. Lynton's many hobbies and interests included watching and feeding the birds around his yard, deer hunting with family, working on various projects in the garage, and taking pride in his yard. He cherished his many beloved pets throughout the years, watching RFD-TV, and reading anything and everything about history. Over the years, Lynton hosted many pinochle and poker game nights with the guys, and most recently, spent his time visiting and playing bingo with his friends at Valley View Manor. He will be deeply missed by all who shared in his life.

Lynton is survived by his daughter, Laurie (Silas) Harris, Minot, and son, Corey Klimpel, Sawyer; granddaughter, Jamie (Chris Feltner) Harris, Minot; sister, Carlene Thiese, Minnetonka, MN; brothers, Doyle (Ila) Klimpel, Bismarck, and Gaylon (Evelyn) Klimpel, Minot; step-sister, Lynne (Fernando) Molina, Lakeville, MN; sisters-in-law, Judy (Clayton) Brevig, Sawyer, Eileen Tofteland, Minot; brothers-in-law, Jerry (Sharon) Tofteland, Benedict, Jim (Kathy) Tofteland, Minot, and Don (Deb) Tofteland, Mandan; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lynton was preceded in death by his parents, wife, infant son, Clifford, sisters-in-law, Mary Jane and Darlene Tofteland, brother-in-law, Larry Tofteland and nephews, Jessy Klimpel and Raymond Tofteland.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 12, 2019 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Minot.
Interment:  Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 11, 2019 from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
