Lynne Sandra Rumney, 47, Minot and active Minot and Bismarck musician, died from cancer on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 in her home with her loving family at her side.
Lynne was born on March 17, 1968 in Omaha, NE to Gale and Marcia (Shaffer) Haggard. She was reared and educated in Silver Spring, MD. She continued her education at Princeton University where she earned her Bachelor's degree (A.B. Cum laude) in English and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. At the Eastman School of Music, (Rochester, NY), she earned her Master\'s degree (M.M.) in Violin Performance.
Lynne married Jon Rumney on December 23, 1992 in Silver Spring. They moved to Minot in 1994 where she was employed by Minot State University as Director of the Honors Program (2005-2011), Instructor of Humanities (1995-2011) and was Co-founder/Administrative Director of the Dakota Chamber Music Institute (1996-2005). Also, she taught private violin and viola lessons (1994-2004), served on the faculty of the International Music Camp (1996-1999), played Principal Second Violin for the Minot Symphony Orchestra (1994-2010) and served as Concertmaster for the Bismarck-Mandan Symphony Orchestra (1996-1999) and Western Plains Opera Orchestra.
Lynne was an active member of Vincent United Methodist Church since 1994, a member of P.E.O. Chapter G and several book clubs. In her free time she enjoyed reading and sharing time with friends over a cup of tea. She loved working with students, and bringing people of varied interests together. Her cheerful smile and sharp wit engaged people instantly. In these and many other ways, she truly transformed lives.
Lynne's loving family includes her husband of 22 years: Jon, daughter of whom she was especially proud: Danica; father: Gale Haggard of St. Louis MO; mother-in-law: Jean Rumney (Minot); sister: Loretta Haggard (Colleen Gilmore) of St. Louis MO; sister-in-law: Erna (Stephen) Buckles of Austin TX; brother-in-law: Don (Linda) Rumney of Kansas City MO; nephews: Jonathan Gilmore-Haggard, Joseph Buckles, Robert (Connor) Buckles and their son Ara, and niece Katherine (Dan) Serber. Lynne was preceded in death by her mother Marcia Haggard.
Celebration of the Life of Lynne Rumney: Sunday, July 12, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in Vincent United Methodist Church - Minot.
Interment will be in Rosehill Memorial Park - Minot.
Visitation: Saturday from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
Memorials are preferred to the Lynne and Jon Rumney Dakota Chamber Music Scholarship Endowment at Minot State University or Vincent United Methodist Church.
