Lyle Gene Waswick, 83, rural Des Lacs, died Tuesday, January 8, 2013 in a Minot Nursing Home.

Lyle was born January 8, 1930 at Colton, South Dakota, the son of Walter and Ingeborg (Jostad) Waswick. While Lyle was young, the family moved to a farm south of Des Lacs, where he was raised and assisted with the operation of the family farmstead.

Lyle was united in marriage to Elaine Johnson on December 14, 1952 at Zion Lutheran Church in Minot. They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on December 14, 2012. They were blessed with two children, Susan and Larry.

Lyle was very conservation minded as he operated his farming business. To reduce soil erosion, he planted several miles of trees and added grain straw to heavily eroded areas to improve the soil. Twice, Lyle received Soil Conservation Awards for his farming practices. Lyle and Elaine also raised livestock and milked cows by hand prior to their using a milk machine. Lyle also assisted with the building of homes at Minot Air Force Base during the 1950's.

Lyle was a longtime member of Rose Valley Lutheran Church, where he was actively involved in the Church Council, longtime sexton of the Church Cemetery, and assisted with many projects to improve the Church. He was also a member of the Farmers Union Oil Company and served on it's Board of Directors. He was also a member of the Vang Township Board and served as the Township Board Assessor.

Lyle's family includes , wife of 60 years, Elaine; children, Susan Cleveland, Minot, and Larry (Bonnie) Waswick, Midlothian, TX; grandchildren, Melisa LeRohl, Michelle Van Winkle, Timothy, Benjamin & Jonathan Waswick; several nieces and nephews.

Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Loretta, Maxine, Doris, Glenn and Donna.

Funeral service : Friday, January 11, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in Rose Valley Lutheran Church, rural Des Lacs, ND.
Interment: Rose Valley Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation: Thursday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to Rose Valley Lutheran Church or Wycliffe Bible Translators.
