Obituary

Lyle Person, 84, Mohall, formerly of Ruthville and the Devils Lake area, died at the Mohall Good Samaritan Center on Thursday, June 7, 2007, shortly after being diagnosed with lung cancer.

Lyle was born June 6, 1923, and raised on the family farm near Starkweather, ND, the son of Nels and Margaret (Mikkelson) Person. He graduated from Starkweather High School in 1941, where he was active in sports, excelling in basketball and football. He entered the United States Army shortly after graduation, serving with the Military Police. Following his honorable discharge, he worked at Bob Jones' service station near Starkweather. He married Cayrol Avis Martin on February 25, 1956 at Cando. They made their home in Starkweather, then Devils Lake, prior to moving to Ruthville in 1959. He was employed by Bennie Schimmelpfenning until his retirement in 1987. They remained in Ruthville until 2002, when they moved to the North Central Good Samaritan Care Center after Avis became ill. Avis died January 27, 2003, surrounded by Lyle and their children.

Lyle loved to fish and spend time in the outdoors. He and Avis owned a cabin on Crooked Lake, where they spent many weekends. He greatly enjoyed time with his family. Lyle and Avis spent many hours traveling countless miles to attend their children's and grandchildren's sporting events and other activities. He loved his grandchildren deeply, and had a special knack for rocking them to sleep when they were young. Lyle loved to visit, and enjoyed nothing more than lighthearted conversation and a cup of coffee. He was very resourceful, able to construct or repair virtually anything around the house or yard.

Lyle and Avis were members of First Lutheran Church of Minot, since their move to the Minot area.
