Lyle Harold Miller, 74, Velva and formerly of Sawyer and Minot died on Saturday, March 2, 2013 in a Minot nursing home.
Lyle was born on February 28, 1939 in Appleton, Wisconsin to Harold and Ruth (Schaeffer) Miller. He was raised in Neenah, WI and graduated from Neenah High School in 1957. He attended the University of Wisconsin at Madison for a short time prior to being drafted into the U.S. Army. He served from 1962 until 1964 with a portion of his time being spent in Hawaii. Following his honorable discharge he returned to the family farm where he operated a dairy farm for several years.
Lyle moved to North Dakota in 1980 and has resided in Minot, Sawyer and Velva and has been employed at the Burtch Family Farm near Norwich for more than 15 years until 2005. Most recently, he resided in Sawyer for about 10 years before moving to Velva in 2005.
Lyle was a former member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church - Sawyer and was presently a member of the Velva Methodist Church. He was an active member of the Velva Senior Citizens Center, enjoyed reading and watching television and was often found lending a helping hand with snow shoveling in Velva and Sawyer.
Survivors include his sons: Scott (Karen) Miller of Neenah and Kurt (Shirley) Miller of Chicago; grandchildren: Lindsey, Justin, Alicia and Melanie and special friends: Liz Washek, Dick and Nell Burtch, and Tom and Marilyn Burtch and their families.
Lyle was preceded in death by his parents.
Celebration of the Life of Lyle Miller: Thursday, March 7, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the Velva United Methodist Church.
Interment will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Neenah, Wisconsin.Visitation: Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home Minot.
Memorials are preferred to the Velva Senior Citizen Center.
